How nice, because I am also an Anglo-Catholic in the "liberal" vein, St. John's Bowdoin Street, Boston, where Fr. Benson was once Rector and head of the S.S.J.E. I was organist for their for a few years and also a member. (The S.S.J.E. was resident there there until they built their monastery in...
I see you are in Kentucky. I had to move around some framed stuff in my office: I had to move my Kentucky Colonel certificate so I could get my Masonic ones on one wall. Still in my office, and proud to be a Kentucky Colonel--though there are more Colonels than Masons, I suspect.
BTW, the Grand Lodge of Maine recognizes PHA lodges and while our African American community is very small here (and thus our PHA community is very small as most AA folks affiliate with A.F&A.M. lodges and our constitution states that there is to be no discrimination based on race or ethnicity)...
I'm curious, because it's part of my heritage and one of the men who sponsored my candidacy was also a member of my Parish--as were several other members of my Parish including our Chaplain.
I had an interesting conversation with a Brother/Companion the other day who was actually under the...
I think it's against the rules to post the website here. I'm going to walk right up to bending the rules and suggest you do a search for 78, a dot, and the abbreviation for "commercial" and see what comes up. ;)
Your old Pioneer receiver should work well as an amp. Speakers used to be large and expensive if they were good, but today smaller ones can be had which are cheaper and actually better (I used to have a pair of Bozak speakers from the 60's that were the size of a small refrigerator!) than the...
Exactly, and as I suggested in my post, it would necessitate legal residency abroad and generally for one year prior to petitioning the lodge. If someone feels this strongly about it, and can expatriate themselves for a time--it would be a worthwhile exercise. Frankly, if I were going to do that...
I've been a record collector since the age of 12, and while I still have all my vinyl (mostly classical in nature) my real focus has been in pre-1930 discs and cylinders, especially those manufactured by Edison.
I'm a huge proponent of digital transfers of cylinders and discs though I do play...
I also wanted to add that all fraternities are based on shared experiences, often carried out by a series of standard initiation rituals--that is, we've all walked the same path. In the case of Freemasonry, that path goes back a long, long way and the ritual and lessons contained within them...
You present an interesting predicament. Here in the United States there are 50 Grand Lodges, one for each state, who recognize one another and are recognized as regular by the UGLE, from whence ours came. I don't know this for sure, but my reading of the Constitution of my particular Grand Lodge...
Everyone is nervous, I would suspect. I know I was. In fact, I still am when I take a new degree in an appendant body. Nervous mostly with anticipation. Put your faith in the Deity and trust the Brothers, they will take good care of you. Open your heart and mind, trust those who prepare and...
I'm the Sr. Steward of my lodge too, but my Jr. Steward is a trained cook. He cooks, I set up the lodge. It works out really well. By the way, we all help out with cooking from time to time and our lodge is known for our food and our bean suppers (it's New England, after all!). I am known...
I had posted in a couple of other threads that 6 of us were supposed to be exalted to the degree of Royal Arch Mason last Saturday in a quarry, something that had been a long tradition at the Chapter associated with my Blue Lodge. Sadly, we had October weather in September (oddly, it's warmer...
One must be reminded of one's obligation. Without knowing the situation I would suggest that if I were in the situation of your brother, I would be upfront and say that it is not within the length of my cable-tow rather than avoiding the situation. However, I am also not in the position to judge.
If I meet a brother I know to be a Master Mason, or am introduced to a Master Mason I do not know by a brother whom I do (which I would take as "properly avouched for") I will give him the grip. A poster upthread suggested that someone "might see". I highly doubt it. I have noticed some MMs...
