I went to my second stated meeting last night. There were about 20 brothers present. DDGM was present from Dist. 38 and a couple Brothers from lodges elsewhere in the district. We were all present to honor two Brothers Receiving 65 and 50 year pins. One of the Brothers Wife was present.
Both Brothers were brought up to the alter and then presented their pins and certificates. After the presentation they were asked if they had any words for the Brothers in attendance.
One of the Brothers who is 93 years old received a 65 year pin gave a short talk. He said. "He was asked recently what he attributes his longevity in life to". He proceeded to explain. "It is a very simple yet complex answer. Freemasonry. I wake every day knowing that I am a better man because of the lessons taught to me in the lodge. You have to work at it every day but it is a very good thing to improve yourself because the others around you will improve with your example".
The other Brother was receiving a 50 year pin. He said that he has also been married for 50 years. Then he said.”You get out of Freemasonry what you put into it”. He continued to say “I have received much more out of Freemasonry than I could ever hope to put back into it”.
Both of these Brothers were very humble in that when their Masonic record was read they have been very active in there combined 115 years in Masonry. Here is the thing the Worshipful Master was acknowledging the Brothers in the lodge at the beginning and there were many duel members, plethora of Past Masters two 50 year pin Brothers. So you take just the 4 pinned Brothers and that makes 215 years of Masonic experience. Also that is 215 years of opinions that might vary slightly but is still very much sought after by our lodge as expressed by our present Worshipful Master.
One of the Brothers signed my petition and I will be forever grateful. That Same Brother still Mentors EA's and does the work on the lodges Ac system. All of these Brothers I look up to and hope to be just as honorable in the future as they have been and continue to be. It is my hope that all of these Brothers continue to come to the lodge and let us partake of the fountain of knowledge that they represent.
Sometimes I have heard that old is new and new needs a piece of the old so as to grow and become relevant to our lives. So as these Brothers are much older than myself. The lessons they teach are time tested and needed before you can change anything if change is truly needed at all.
I know this Long post was all over the place but it was just what was going through my mind last night on the way home after witnessing this wonderful occasion. If nothing else there are lessons to be learned everywhere you just need to look for them.
