First function

I'm member of a very small lodge and usually for an initiation we ask people from other lodges to fill functions. Yesterday we had an initiation that we wanted to do ourselves. There were only a few MMs present. One was WM, another Director of Ceremonies and Orator; yet another Preparator and Guide (what are the English terms?) and the last (recently raised) Senior Warden. The Junior Warden was a FC (soon to be raised). An EA was Almoner and Secretary. A newly promoted FC was Outer Guard. We had one very green EA on the columns and I (EA) got to be Inner Guard. (That is the size of our lodge with three absentees.)

I had only attented one initiation after my own (late May), so I wonder why I got a function with the amount of text that I had, but book-in-hand (very common here by the way) things went well. A much different way to experience an initiation I must say!

Just three weeks ago I was visiting a lodge and was tapped to play a part in the MM ritual. This is common in my state.

With us too. Preferably not 'sponteneously' (as in: good to see you, we still need a guard), but when functions prove to be empty when somebody does not show up that happens too. Perhaps a difference is that in my lodge each grade takes about a year and we have not enough MMs for all functions, so this time EAs and FCs also filled functions. A nice upportunity.
