Freemasonry in the American Revolution

I just finished reading this book by Sidney Morse, it was rather short, but fun to read. After reading it I was amazed at how many key figures during the Revolution were Masons. It stated many, if not most of Washington's generals were Masons. It went into detail about the differences between the Modern and Ancient Lodges in the Colonies. Is there truth behind the claims that all these prominent figures were Masons? I've read some posts claiming Benjamin Franklin was, and was not a Mason.

Indeed M. W. Brother Franklin was a Mason, in fact it was his Masonic connections in France that helped him gain support in that country for the cause of Liberty(most of the French generals were masons). It was Brother Franklin that escorted Voltaire during his initiation, in the lodge of the Nine Sisters. When you research it threw you will find that the USA was, for the most part, founded to fulfill the dream of having a country founded on the strong, solid tenets of Masonry. And while our foundation is rock solid, the clap-board house built atop that foundation is very much rotting in this day and age, IMHO.
