"A necropost is a post on an "old, abandoned thread that has been considered 'dead' for a while...that no longer serves any purpose but is bumped back up to the top of the forums by someone posting in it."
If a post has been dormant for several months or longer and someone wants to rekindle the discussion, forum etiquette is (usually) to create a new post, maybe referencing the original post or position. But if there have been no posts in months, it is because the discussion ended. Summarize your position or posit the new question in a new posting in the appropriate section of the forum so anyone who is interested in the topic only need read one, or a few posts, to get back into the discussion.
It is one of the most annoying things on forums to have to go back and re-read pages of posts to try to figure out the context of the new post being added, sometimes years later. Often times many of the posters aren't even active on the forum anymore and can no longer defend their position or further contribute to the discussion. The situation in the Masonic world may have changed in the time since the discussion happened and the information and positions may no longer be relevant.
This is not a rule, merely a point of netiquette and one that is not universal as I belong to a couple forums that are the exact opposite and become frustrated when someone posts a topic that already exists. The difference being that they expect your question to be answered by reading the old post and also frown on necroposting.
