Rings made me a Mason....back in 1955, I was an eight-year-old being taught how to spiral a football by my war veteran uncle. As he was showing me how to put my fingers on the stitching to make it spiral, I noticed his ring with the strange design on it. I had to ask. He told me that it was a big secret and he couldn't talk about it, but let me see it up close. Well, telling an eight year old that anything was a secret was the same as lighting a fire in my undeveloped noggin. Fast forward to 1969 at Allen Military Academy in Texas (which, by the way, is where Epstein's girlfriend is presently incarcerated) and the night that I had guard duty, I was at Cadet HQ and was chatting with an old SGM and noticed...his ring. I was finally going to find out what that design meant and was eager to question him about it. He told me it was his Freemason's ring. A silence ensued with him looking steadily into my eyes and I was confused to say the least. I was expecting him to just open up and tell me all about it, but he just kept staring (scary, when it's an old SGM shooting daggers at you). I finally swallowed and said "So what does it do"? His face went through a miraculous transformation that would have cured cancer if I had had it at that time. "Are you asking me about Freemasonry?" My well thought out reply "Uh, yeah, I guess so." What a start. So the usual thing happened and I was on my way to a small lodge in Welborn, Texas named "Adam Royder Nº 778" and there initiated into the craft. Fast forward again to 2020 and I am in Madrid, Spain, having lunch at a local restaurant with my wife. For some unknown reason that I never could explain, I found my ring with the Square and Compass in a drawer and wore it that day. I had not worn it for years. I was in Spain...why would I ? Then the next sequence of events were clearly orchestrated by the Grand Algorithm that governs us all. I raised my hand to scratch my snow white hair and at that moment, an 80 year old Spaniard saw the movement from ten tables away (he had lens implants) and weaved his way over to our table. He bent over, and in a comic covert manner, and in a low whisper, asked me if I was an "hermano" (brother). I had no idea what he was talking about until he tapped my ring with his finger. To shorten a way too long story, He invited me to his lodge and I later affiliated with it. There were Scottish Rite members who attended the lodge and asked me if I was a member of any consistory. Having gotten my 32º in 1983, I said yes and am now a member of the consistory here in Madrid. All because of a ring.
Wear your's with pride, you never know what will come of it∴
