The document is a declaration of constitution by the brothers of Harmony Lodge No. 1 in Providence, RI, dated Dec. 30, 1826. Providence brothers wrote to African Grand Lodge and petitioned for a warrant to open a Lodge in Providence.
This document is the proof that the Harmony Lodge is the first established Lodge in Providence RI by African Lodge.
The Generally accepted narrative states that Hiram Lodge No. 4 was the first, but there is no record of African Lodge forming that Lodge in their records. The fact that Harmony used the number 1 as a Lodge designation is also very significant.
