The laws of the GLoT are pretty clear that when a lodge does degree work on a man as a courtesy to another lodge, the lodge performing the degree does not receive the degree fee. But...is there a route for the lodge to be reimbursed for its trouble and resources?
Courtesy work is usually requested & done due to reasons of distance, so this option would not, in most cases, work. The last time we did a courtesy degree, the Brother's parent Lodge was up by the Oklahoma border. The last time we requested courtesy work, our candidate was going to college in Colorado. Either way, it would have been pretty tricky to provide the meal, not to mention expensive. We normally just offer to have the conferring Lodge keep the degree fee.
We are often requested by nearby lodges without enough members who can memorize the work. Grand Lodge law is pretty firm about not keeping the degree fee.
