This is key! Family relationships are very important and you should consider the reprocussions of joining. So, you have to decide if a break in the relationship with your parents is worth it. The relationship with your wife is paramount and if you think joining the fraternity will cause any...
I was active until I moved to Florida. Just getting settled into Masonic activities over here. It's a great organization. I enjoy having fun. Go on a hospital visit and you will be impressed.
The SR has a hospital too, in Dallas.
I think the SR Houston dues are about a $100 a year. You don't have to join the SR before joining the Shrine. Nowadays the requirement for joining the Shrine is being a Master Mason, don't have to join the YR or SR anymore (like you did in the years past).
Regarding the difference between...
As with most things in Masonry, it will all make better sense after you have done it.
At the September Reunion you will see the 4th, 6th, 14th, 18th, 21st, 22nd, 25th, 29th, 30th and 32nd. You will walk out on the second day a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. I think it is fair to say the...
There are certain degrees that are critical/required and all of those will be conferred (where you actually see the degree presented). The remaining degrees will either be communicated (taught) in a class room or conferred, but the majority ofthem will be taught in a classroom. You won't see...
Our recent discussion of issues related to GLOT and PHA prompted me to repost the post below from Bro. Bowden last year. I recently moved to Florida and the regular lodges here are F&A.M. So, while the comparison of A.F&A.M. and F&A.M. may make since when comparing GLOT and PHA in Texas, an...
I would bet you my boots that these two convicted felons you are referring to were members of one of the obscure and clandestine Grand Lodges that have been mentioned here (like PHO).
I thought about the beehive, but I think it would be difficult to do it justice on a ring of this size.
He ran a new design and has both the acacia and the eye on it. Here is the new design.
Its a band with the tools and emblems going all the way around. Something like these:

Once he removes the 47th Problem he should have no problem doing the eye. Currently, the square and compasses are separated, which is cool, but if he needs room to at the acacia, I could have him do the S&C in the traditional fashion.
Since there are no shortage of opinions here, please give me yours! I am having a "band-style" ring made, embossed with the working tool and other emblems. The Brother that is making it has it very well laid out and here are the emblems that are currently planned for the ring:
1. 24 inch...
This is a tough conversation. First, I have a friend that is a Prince Hall Mason and from our conversations (nothing inappropriate of course), I have determined that they would be as opposed to a merger as much as a regular lodge would. You state correctly that their work is different, and...
