What event(s) does your Lodge host?

For example BBQ Cookoff, Chili Cookoff, Fish Fry, etc. What kind of turn out do you guys get? Do you host the events for community recognition or fundraising?

We held a car show last year at the Temple which this year will be @ Tarrant 942 so sign up now lol but the turnout was alright and we held it with the intent of fundraising but after we did not break even it became a community event. lol We expect many more this year so we are going back to fundraiser all in all the event is very fun and mostly non-Masons that are curious to what we are all about.

I am starting to think that if Masonry keeps going down this path of public events and open houses, I may have to focus more on Scottish Rite or York Rite.

My home lodge has several events. One is the "George Washington's Birthday Banquet". It is a dinner meeting, where each member of our lodge may bring with him one or more men who are not masons. We serve a meal, and then a speaker talks about Masonry, George Washington, and other aspects of Masonry. Participants are encouraged to ask questions, and inquire about Masonry. There are stacks of petitions available.

We usually get 7-8 or more petitions out of each banquet.

I believe these can be looked at more than community involvement but team building (with the people in charge of putting on the event) and fellowship. It is an oppurtunity to bring the family up and participate in an event at the Lodge. I don't much care for this aspect either but I have found a positive in something that I don't care to do.

Without a healthy Blue Lodge, you can kiss SR and YR goodbye.

I belong to a lodge in Massachusetts. Every lodge in the entire state is open on a Saturday in April and October. Coffee and snacks are served. Masonic pamphlets, and other literature is distributed. The statewide event is carried on Boston TV/Radio/Newspapers (statewide coverage).

The result is, many individuals who never had any idea about Masonry, get an introduction. Some of the attendees ask for a petition. Many lodges in Mass, have waiting lists of men, who have petitioned.

We are doing a monthly pancake breakfast, and are trying to organize a car wash. We are doing some things to "Spruce Up" the old Lodge Building, and are looking at a couple of other events. We are getting one or two more each month to help with the breakfast, and it is still helping get us a little ahead with the finances. We hope to provide larger scholarships this next year for the graduating seniors, or more scholarships. As for the York or Scottish Rites, I have not looked into them, are they more laid back, or what is with spending more time with them?
