Saturday Mornings

I am going to make a suggestion at our lodge for opening up the lodge on Saturday mornings twice a month for coffee donuts and maybe breakfast. I was thinking that this might be a good way to get Brothers who cant come during the week due to work or other obligations to come down and just relax and visit. What do you guys think.

I think it's a fine idea. Fellowship is what Masonry is all about. I generally don't like doing degree work on Saturdays because it is so tough to get folks out for that amount of time, but if you are just having people stop by at the leisure to fellowship, it sounds like a good idea to me.

Back in Santa Fe we had "Quest Club" on Saturday mornings. It was coffee and donuts and open discussion that anyone could come to. Many of our petitions came from men who began having coffee at Quest, myself included.
I keep meaning to start a post about it; I'll try to do that this evening.

That is what I was thinking. Other members even suggested we have a game night or something to that effect.

We (Adoniram #288, Mablevale, AR) open at 7:00 a.m. each Saturday morning for coffee and fellowship, as well as to provide a weekend time for the younger brothers to come work on their proficiency lectures, as well as some of us older guys to come and drill each other on our grand lodge proficiency cards. It's worked well so far. One lodge over in Jacksonville, on the other side of the county, opens each morning from 7 to 9 for coffee, and the same sort of thing...

My lodge has (for as long as I've been a member) a "Masonic university" every Saturday morning. The most common activity is the instruction of newly initiated, passed, and raised brothers, but any Masonic subject is fair game for instruction and discussions. The result is that it is usually well attended by new and old alike.

If you can get something like this going, you will be pleased with the results. Go for it.

Thanks Brothers. I think it will be well received. My wife and I are going to donate the coffee and I will probably pick up some donuts on the way. I Really think this can be a step in the right direction to getting some of the Brothers who cant attend regularly to show up and get to know some of their new Brothers, and reconnect with some of their older Brothers.

We have what is called "Breakfast with Hiram," on the third saturday of every month. Even when we are dark in the summer.

It is open to Masons and the public.

A brother runs it with help. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc. (a simple breakfast menu)

Its a nominal fee for the food and it gets the families mingling.
