Dues - a Perspective

We have a lot of discussion about dues here; what's too high, what's too low, what you get for your money, et cetera, et cetera. So I thought I'd put it into a bit of perspective...
I am an official for an amateur sports league. To be an active official with voting rights, I pay $10 a month, work at least 90% of the events, and attend weekly scrimmages and quarterly meetings.
To be an active athlete in the league, you must pay $50 a month (that's right, $600 a year), be a member of at least one committee, attend one weekly practice and weekly scrimmage, play your scheduled events as well as work 90% of the other team's events (there are three teams), and attend quarterly meetings as well as committee meetings. If your dues aren't up-to-date, or you miss too many practices, you're benched.
So, really, are your dues too high or is your time commitment too strained? You asked to be a Mason, are you really going to let a bunch of jocks outshine you? ;)

My lodge yearly dues are a bit above 300 euro. Close to 400 us dollars. That doesnt include coffee and drinks. In my country, thats an average amount as far as i know. For me, its a lot of money, but very much worth it. A sportsclub would cost a similar amount, lessons at the music school double that. Gotta make choices.

I played house league hockey before I hurt my back. ( :15:) There were three seasons in a year. Winter, Spring and Summer. Fall rolled into winter the way the scheduling worked out. Depending on the amount of teams and people one could expect to pay anywhere between 300 ~ 350 a person per season. 1K a year on hockey not including gas to get there and missed days of work for injuries!

My dues are 104 a year.

6 dollars for dinner for stated meetings twice a month (12 total)

6 dollars for dinner at craftsman's club once a month.

Figure in another 75 ~ 100 a year for attending some events.

100

420 ish a year depending how active I am at events and if I eat at lodge.

Sport is usually more expensive, and judging from all the injuries ppl get from it, more dangerous. Ppl are better off joining the craft in multiple ways :)
