Brother Harry Truman and the White House

During President Truman's term of office it was necessary to rebuild the White House. In 1952, while the work was in progress, Brother Truman discovered that some of the original stones contained traditional "Mason's marks". He directed that these stones be preserved and delegated the duty to Major General Harry H. Vaughan, Brother Renah F. Camalier, and the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia. These stones were distributed to the Grand Lodges of the United States and to certain territories and foreign governments. On February 22, 1966, the last stone was presented to the George Washington National Masonic Memorial Association for display in the Temple on Shooter's Hill.

Mmm, actually, I didn't tell that -- Masonry is "bad". :) First. Second -- I love clever people with good sense of humour. In Masonry -- there is that kind of people(Russian at least) :) Third -- I wanna join, but, in -- 2017.Till that time, I'm plannin' to be enough good, so that -- there will be no need to 'make me better' :)
No matter how "good" someone is we always have room for improvement.

An excellent book ... if you can find it these days... is Allen Roberts' Brother Truman, a Masonic biography of the former president and Missouri grand master.

Arkansas's stone from the White House is still in the archives of the Grand Lodge, and was brought out for an exhibit last year at the Historic Arkansas Museum in commemoration of the Grand Lodge's 175th anniversary.
