I have many assumptions of whats what and whats not. 98% of the time i'm incorrect.
Every Lodge is blessed with a brother or brothers who are well informed and rehearsed of the correct laws and guidlines of the Blue Lodge and Grand Lodge.
I'm greatfull of the knowledge of Brother Bill Lins, David Hacke, David Broman, Jack Ebbeling, Brandon Cruz and so many others.
Then you have the heart of the lodge, once again i'm blessed with the likes of DD Hill, Newton, and the list goes on.

Such a vast array of guides which wrought us through life in countless ways.

Here is to all those true Master Masons:sc:

Thank You

Thank you Brother LGR.. ! most of the times I know because I have made that mistake and were gently corrected by brother who are no longer here.. ! like I said about the work.. ! it was given to me by some very good masons and its only mine for a short while and I must pass it on.. ! thats what masonary is all about.. ! its not about how may titles you can rack up .. ! or if you do all the work perfect.. ! its about being there and teaching.. ! :D
that bunch of young ones that are working very well and was never as proud as last week end when the brothern from minnesota were here in Texas for a Bar-B-Q cook off and were treated to great Texas Masonic hospitality... !

A PM that I greatly respect and look up to once told me that every Mason that is serious about the craft should have a mentor. It doesnt have to be something formal but you need someone with whom you can with safety confide and ask for advise. Ive been fortunate to have a few.

LRG, it's easy to teach someone who wants to learn. It's truly enjoyable to work with you. (BTW, we gotta get busy getting you ready for the "C" exam! ;) )

I just want to say thanks to all the Brothers that have hashed it out and has really made this section of the forum successful. I really hope to make a Leadership course out of some of these hypotheticals and what is learned on here. I know I enjoy the grey area issues and I appreciate the ones that help keep me in line on here. Just this weekend I was proven wrong on voting issue in the Lodge and I am humbled by it. I hope this really becomes a great tool and learning area for anyone involved in Lodge Administration.

When I looked at a spreadsheet that has voting requirements it says "optional" for receiveing a petition on affiliation and so I took it as optional to vote. When in fact it meant optional on method but you must vote. So we were going to move forward and not vote just accept the brother. A well versed Brother stood and corrected our mistake. This weekend he showed me my error in the Law Book and how I was mistaken. That is why I wish when in this section you do your best to quote Law. That way we learn where your response came from. Don't get me wrong it is nice to see the "traditions" as well but as we Brothers found out at 148 traditions can get charges filed.

Bro. Gerald- you're too kind. It's not that I'm such a good teacher, but that I'm lucky to have good students!

as we Brothers found out at 148 traditions can get charges filed.

Bro. Josh- without mentioning names, can you explain what happened?

Well to tell you the truth I caught the tail end of it all. Brothers Tom or Rhit possibly Sirus where all there. I was brought into the Lodge shortly after the charges were brought on.

It was interpreted wrong. I actually did not have ours infront of me in Lodge. I was concerned how the elder Masons would feel about a computer in the Lodge Room. I have been told by my WM that I can have it so I will have it infront of me beginning next Stated Meeting.

However as corrective action I have added a column for "Voting Required". This allows you at a glance to look and see if it is required. I present you Vote Type Rev. 4

Josh - that chart is under the glass on the Secretary's desk in the Lodge in the upper right hand corner

Oh and I was going to start using my computer at the JW station last meeting but the battery was suspect. It is smaller than the Law book and has more in it (it does have the law in digital format)

Well the chart is what I was in question of Bro. If you look at "For Affiliation" it says "optional" on all three voting methods. The problem was I misread it as the Vote its self was optional as the WM decision like a couple other votes are so I was corrected by a well seasoned Brother and we voted. So I have added the "Vote Required" and hyperlinked the procedure article to it so at a click one can read the actual article direcly cut and pasted from the 2009 GL Law book. Other than that it should be identical to the one on the desk except everything is hyperlinked to the article for easy research if questioned.

Brother Josh, Thank goodness for well seasoned brothers, and for brothers like yourself, who are well versed in computer usage, have a burning desire to do the right thing, and take the time to develope charts such as this one. Congratulations and thank you
