Longer Terms

Ok so I have been pondering some things and I just thought of this, what if the Grand Lodge Officers had longer terms. The way I see it how much can one do in one year. It is like the Grand Master is in office and before you know it he is out. Plus I would like to see GL meet more than once a year. they should do webcasts and such. Just some topics. What do you all think?

In MA, the GL meets quarterly. The elected Grand Officers (SW, JW) serve one year. The GM serves three. I believe the longer term is much better. When I see the "Texas Mason" magazine and see all the places the GM goes to in his year, it's a wonder he has time to do any business.

Again TexMass, good call. I don't think that their terms should be longer, they just need to meet more than once a year.

Well if you get a good one the time is too short... ! but if you get a bad one.. its tooooo long... !

I think by the time the year is over with most are ready for it to end.. ! the time they spend and travel they do.. ! it takes a lot of dedication.. !

I don't think longer terms would accomplish anything more or less than we accomplish now on the GL level. Maybe meeting twice a year would be more effective. Of course if we meet in December then 6 months later in June you have to take in to account the lack of A/C at GL!!!

To honestly answer this question I would need to know what powers the Grand Master actually has here in Texas?

It's never clearly been explained to me.

The GM does what he wants. Within reason of course but even if he does break Masonic law it would have to be severe for anyone to have the intestenal fortitude to challenge him. For real Brother Rav his power is fully explained on paper in GL law book, it is right up front.

Want more GL Communications? Go to GL a couple of years and see if you still think that, It's really not necessary.

As for longer terms, the 'tradition' has it's purposes. It prevents a pooling of power. Due to the regular change in Grand East stability is achieved. I don't believe a GM has ever been re-elected, even during war.
