GLs Recognized by GL of D.C.?

I was looking at their website and could only find information indicated that they recognized their PH counterpart (as expected), but I could find any list of GLs recognized by the GL of the District of Columbia. I tried to find a list elsewhere but couldn't find any. Can someone point me in the right direction, please? If not, oh well.

“List of Lodges Masonic “, by Pantagraph; the dated list at MSANA. Your secretary or Tyler has the former. The latter is on the web. Did you have a specific question?

Each jurisdiction publishes its recognition list differently.

Some only publish changes in their annual proceedings so there is no published formal list at any one point. I've looked for the recognition list for GLofTX and wonder if we do it that way.

Some publish the list in the annual proceedings. I download the GLofCA proceedings most years because that's where California publishes theirs.

Some publish the list on the web. I used to have a bookmark to the GLofIL page but it's been through two reorganizations since ... Whenever I want to look up recognition I start at the UGLE web site because they keep it up to date. It's not authoritative for other jurisdictions but nearly all jurisdictions follow their lead nearly all of the time so it's a very good starting point. To be blunt, if I can't find my jurisdiction's list I just use the UGLE one. It's up to my jurisdictions to make their list visible to me as a member.

Well I was more interested in their recognition of Prince Hall Jurisdictions, which tends to set American Grand Lodges apart from the UGLE. But I'll try to figure this out.

That's how I learned to figure out recognition in each of my jurisdictions. It's easy to know that I can attend lodge at GLofSTATE. I read the news and pay attention to the rare case when a state pulls recognition. To figure out if I can attend lodge at MWPHGLofSTATE I need to read the actual list.

Well, UGLE doesn’t recognize all PHA either. I provided you two resources.

The Grand Secretary of your own Grand Lodge would be the place to find this information without the risk of errors.

Actually, in the US the GSecretaties from other jurisdictions go to the List of Lodges Masonic by Pantagraph or MSANA. These are typically in the possession of tylers or lodge secretaries in the US.

I'm obviously having a bad morning here.
Are you saying that my suggestion is wrong?

Well, inefficient. Why would a member go to the grand secretary to have the grand secretary look in the book that his Tyler has sitting at the Tyler’s register in the local lodge (or that many of us have on our bookshelf)? Most Masons these days are capable of reading as well as the GSec, and some more so.

Additionally, in some US GLs, the question goes straight to the chair of fraternal relations. not the grand secretary. Indeed, even the grand secretary sometimes goes to that Chairman, for whom he serves as committee secretary.

I would note that as a general rule, we should be careful in commenting on the practice of other constitutions, particularly when there are over 70 in a country with widely varying practices.

Getting the current list from the Gr Sec would be without errors at the time it's shipped, but something might change while it's in the mail.

Effectively, the book from Pantagraph has been "in the mail" for at least a year. More if it's not this years book - I have seen lodges use a copy several years old. Higher chance there is some error in it somewhere, but still an extremely low chance for an error in any one use.

Ask a guy in IT a question. What's his answer? "It depends." Doesn't even matter what the question was! Snort.

I understood the question to be other than one’s own jurisdiction, perhaps incorrectly. I quite agree that for one’s own jurisdiction you would go to the grand secretary or chair of fraternal relations.

Another factor with the Pantagraph is various jurisdictions pulling recognition as a way to pressure jurisdictions to fall in line when they violate what one of them think are Masonic principles. The Pantagraph doesn't even try to stay current on such topics. Since once it's at lodge it's a book on paper no longer a draft maintained by a publisher.

These pulled recognition are often well publicized but I rarely see any notice when they end. I remember California pulling recognition from Tennessee when Tennessee started demanding that members be straight, but I have no idea if that edict is still in place. Probably not since it was more than a year ago but I'd need to download the most recent Proceedings to find out. Realistically, should I be on work travel in Tennessee I would not work very hard to find out; I might just visit the nearest lodge I could find and see if they admit me.

Excellent point. I truly wish they’d go online. I’d be happy to pay for the service. However, it is my understanding they (a Pantagraph) have declined an opportunity with the Amity app.
FWIW, I understand the CA prohibition remains.

I am a Washington DC Mason. If you have a specific grand lodge in mind I'd be happy to help. Anything other than one or two and I'd suggest you using the book mentioned.
