Well sounds like to me the Dept. just does what it wants, and if no one calls them out on it then it probably would have got the information. I didn't see but did they turn the information over?

this is SOP for when a newspaper gets subpoenaed and is nothing new... i mean, i understand that you are worried about you getting gagged like that because the DOJ can and does do that, but it's nothing new. the federal government has been doing this for a very long time.

what's really starting to worry me is that newspapers are allowing themselves to be gagged instead of shoving this right up the DOJ's rear end, and it would appear to me that they are cooperating just to get closer to those same officials.

Does anybody else think it is troubling there are exemptions for the press that is not in place for the rest of industry or the people? "Under long-standing Justice Department guidelines, subpoenas to members of the news media are supposed to receive special treatment. "I agree with DOJ having to be specific as to why they need information but I think that should apply to all people. I'm sorry but "We the People" isn't the press it is all of us and the same treatment should be universal. IMHO

because squelching the press is a much bigger issue than squelching one citizen.
