Just went to the post office to get the lodge's mail and had to pay 34 cents for postage due to get the Grand Secretary's Monthly Maintenance from Grand lodge.I wonder if we can take the 34 cents off next years per captia:closedeyes:

That's sad. I guess they are trying to tell everyone to sign up for the email version.

Wow they are sneaking in fees and charges everywhere. What gives man, how did we get ourselves in this corner that GL cannot even afford postage? We gotta fix this.

I might be because they sent the CD of 2010-2011 Directory of Constituent Lodges with it this month.I get the e-mail version and forward to our WM,SW,JW, and Treas. every month.

Plus part of the reason GL is in a bind, is that the per capita hasn't kept up with the times. If they were smart, they would set an auto increase of say $0.25 a year and let it keep up with things instead of waiting until the kitty runs dry and jacking it up 70%.

I think dues should increase 3% a year. So get the dues set and then set an automatic yearly percentage increase. Since when has the cost of living gone down?

Thank you. You have been on a roll today and I needed some laughter today.

True, some type of annual cost of living increase would help ease people into increases.

I have never run into that either? Wonder if it was a slip up? Either way not a really big deal it is just amplified in these times.

I agree Rhit, it's not that the increase is outragous or anything. It's just that with the current economic crisis people are scraping by. I know at our Lodge we are doing everything we can to turn it around and get out of a mess. I am not apposed to paying more for GL dues, but I would rather take that money and put it into MY Lodge.

Another thing, if the GL stopped paying $167K/year for Grand Officers (whatever its for) and the $140K for publishing the newsletter that could be sent electronically, I would feel more at ease about coughing up a little extra. That's just my opinion and I hope I don't offend anyone by it.

I am not opposed to that but how would you market a building like that for sale? Huge building with auditorium and seating for 5,000 but parking for only 1,000. Masonic emblems and scenery engraved on and throughout the building. No A/C or modern anything in the building. Not to mention it is in the middle of Waco which really limits the potential for purchase of such a large building. It just seems for now we are stuck with that building whether we like it or not.

Being just down the street from GL, I would add to this, that the old Waco High School building next to GL, took nearly 15 years to sell. It finally sold for $900,000 instead of the original $1 million asking price from 15 years ago. The GL building would have an even more selective group that would be interested in it. The old Waco High building did have an elevator and air conditioning through out, and is no an affordable housing complex. And about the only group that would be interested in buying that type of building would maybe a church, and wouldn't that be a kick in the head to have a church buy the building, and then with the change of a pastor start charging down an anti-masonic path. Imagine being defamed by a group that is doing from our old GL building.

They need to make the GL building more useful for presentations and by local Lodges. GL just needs to make updating the GL building a priority for a couple of years instead of new programs that will be abandoned after a year.
