Esoteric Lodges

I have only ever sat in two lodges, so excuse my ignorance.

I am extremely fascinated with the esoteric and hermetic principles of Freemasonry, and I am striving to learn more everyday.

My lodge in Hawaii was by most standards a huge lodge membership wise but never really taught the esotericism of Freemasonry, and everything was more about charity work and golf tournaments and dinners.

I have visited Patterson Lodge here in San Antonio and while it is small, they have given excellent lectures on the esoteric qualities of Masonry.

Are there certain lodges that focus on this work specifically? I don't know much about the lodge of research but is this what it focuses on?

I am just looking for more Light now that I have gotten a small taste.

Esoteric work = memory work. For a large part, the proceedings of the lodges of research are public.

They do a lot of things where only masons are invited, but the information presented isn't necessarily "secret."

For example, you can see a link to the Texas Lodge of Research Transactions posted on the site.

If you do indeed mean the memory work/ritual, lodges like Sul Ross #1300 in College Station put around 10 people a year through all 3 degrees (if not a lot more). Our main focus becomes ritual work perfection because we have so many students/new people moving through the degrees.

I didn't mean memory work at all. I meant more like the influences of Qabalah, Astrology, Numerology, Symbolism and other forms of esoterica that is seen in our ritual and so forth. The more Rosicrucian elements of Freemasonry I guess.

Well, to answer your original question, yes, there are lodges that specialize in that kind of work.

At the same time, they post most of it on the internet, and in publications that anyone can subscribe to (quarterly newsletters, etc).

Brent Morris gave a great talk once that I saw regarding the origins of Freemasonry and various influences thereon that included what I would've originally thought to be "tyled information" but he had no problem with the waiters/etc walking around during the presentation.

I am reading a few books about it now, but you can't help to wonder what tyled information you are missing.

I wonder if any Texas Lodges are into this type of work.

I love Patterson Lodge, just gotta get my letter of good standing from Hawaii so I can join.

Dr. Jose has been helping me out, last night he gave me a list of books that will keep me busy for a long time.

White Rock Lodge #347 in Waco is one such Lodge. They pride themselves in being more of a "academic" Lodge. Every month at their stated meeting, White Rock Lodge includes an extensive lecture discussing one of a wide range of Masonic topics and symbols. I was very impressed during my visit, this month. They meet in the Karem Shrine building which I had never been to, either.
