I started the "Voice of Aladdin" amateur radio club at Aladdin Shrine, Columbus OH. If your shrine center does not have a club that suits your needs, then start one.
Most stated meetings are B-O-R-I-N-G. Sad to say, but true. Open the meeting, pay the bills read the sick list, close the meeting. Drink stale coffee, go home. Who wants to do this, when you can stay home and watch cable TV?
Some lodges have an annual "Rusty Nail Degree" see:

In Kentucky, a man must spend 30 days as an EA before he can take the FC, and 30 days as an FC before he can take the MM. And there is a maximum of one year between the degrees. If a man takes longer than one year, then he must drop out, and re-petition.
I spent some time in Indiana. In the...
I suggest that you attend a nearby lodge, and view the degree work from the sidelines. And as soon as possible, you should volunteer to do one of the parts. I always like the "Sea Captain". Since your experience was incredible, why not pay "forward" to the Craft by participating. If your lodge...
If you wish for attendance to increase, you need to ensure that all members of your lodge (and nearby lodges) are informed early. Everyone has family and career commitments. Keep in mind, that not all Masons want to have the beautiful rites performed when they pass. And, that the family of the...
No one expects you to be a human tape recorder. The important task, is that you understand the material. Some men "freeze" in front of the group, and need some help. Please relax, and focus on the material, and try to forget about the group watching.
I agree, Kyle. I would love for Masonry to get more "ink", and to be out in the public eye. The fraternity gets very little publicity. Did you know that there are three youth organizations in the Masonic family?
The Order of DeMolay, for young men 13-21
The Order of the Rainbow For Girls, for...
Interesting ideas, and good questions. There were originally 12 amendments proposed. The first ten were ratified in 1791, and the twelfth proposed amendment did not get ratified until the 1970's (The 27th, dealing with congressional salary increases). Nevertheless, the purpose of the bill of...
The "graying" of Freemasonry, is a national phenomenon. ( I am former statistical data professional, US Bureau of the Census). Masonry experienced a huge growth in membership during WW2, and in the years immediately following. Our peak year of membership was in the early 1950's. We have been...
I am convinced that most of the men who are in Grand Offices, are men of integrity. Many of these fine men, have devoted years to the fraternity, and I am grateful for their service. Unhappily, not all of our Grand Officers meet the expectations that we have for them. There have been incidents...
When in comes to fund-raisers, I have seen it all before. Sometimes in masonic groups, and sometimes in other non-profit organizations. Some people squawk at dues increases, but will not participate in fund-raisers. They expect their lodge to provide a "free ride".
I admit that it is easy to...
I am a veteran. I served during the Indochina conflict (I did NOT serve in theater). I was spit on in Monterey, California, for being in uniform. It was a tough time for the troops. People actually came up to me, and told me to "Get out of VietNam". Like the generals really cared what a...
Normally, you cannot vote, propose motions, nor hold office in a lodge that you are not a member of. I like the exception that Texas has for the tiler. Of course, any mason may visit any regular lodge. But visitation is not the same an being a full, voting member.

I believe that Masonic lodges and Grand Lodges could do the exact same thing!
