How far apart are you lodges?

Illinois still has a form available from the Gr Sec office that's a "Waiver of Jurisdiction". If a candidate petitions a lodge more than 50 miles from his home the lodge nearest his home has to vote to allow the petition to move forward because he's petitioning outside of his traditional cable...

    Slide Show During the Lectures

I thought an ashlar is perfect because it measures exactly to the required dimensions, not because it is cubical. Most of us are taller than we are wide, wider than we are deep. Over the years some of us do gradually approach cubical. Sigh!

    Classic & Traditional Lodge Room!!!

I love that there's a lewis present in the lodge room. I've only seen those in drawings before this.

    Robin Williams

I may have like "Man of the Year" best. To me the idea was the star in "What Dreams May Come". His performance stood out, but so many of his performances stood out.

    Disappointed in lodge turnout.

I remember a joke about a DDGM visit - The DDGM visit had low attendance so after the meeting the DDGM asked the WM if the members had been informed of the event. "Well, I tried to keep it quiet but it looks like the word got out anyways". :)

    Acacia

A ton of fuzziness in translation, especially when it's about plants. Plants have local common names that vary from place to place. It's very hard to say what plant is actually meant. Also understand that our degrees are based on extremely brief mentions in the Old Testament. Most of of the...

Grand Lodge of the United States

As of today there are at least two ongoing genocides in the world that have targeting that includes religion. Under ISIS everyone but members of one faith is subject to execution. In Darfur everyone but members of two faiths is subject to execution. Neither appears to be only about religion...

    Free Born?!

In asking this question and then explaining how it works you have explained very well what the mental qualification version of being free means the way I have thought about it. There are many types of symbolic birth and stepping out of mental bondage into free thought is one of them. Consider...

    Making Good Men Better

We sometimes mention the hidden mysteries but we rarely define what they are. They are not the simple secrets we teach at the altar during the degrees. The hidden mysteries are topics that are visible in the open but that remain secret anyways. Some are the type of secret you can shout from...

Illinois Prince Hall license plate approved

In Illinois I've seen specialty plates for a Superman comic book convention. I think the required number is lower than 1500 based on that. Likely it's 150. Good stuff Illinois!

    New Potential

NYS hasn't switched to age 18 yet? Most states have over the years. Just one of those jurisdictional differences. Check out the Order of the Demolay in the meantime.

    How old is freemasonry?

There is no visible edit function for me and apparently for some others. As there are reports by some that they can see an edit function it must be some sort of configuration issue.

    Does Religion Cause Violence?

To me it would be an unbeliever's mistaking gnosis from faith. To me gnosis means direct knowledge and that suggests direct personal observation. Those who have direct personal observation of deity by some mystical experience don't think they have any need for faith on which to base their...

    Free Born?!

I do notice that you didn't actually say you think the statement is an incorrect projection of current status into the future. Harsh truths don't switch to false because they are harsh. The qualification can and should be taken literally as well as figuratively. There's physical bondage which...

    Free Born?!

The roots of Masonry date from a time when serfdom still existed in parts of Europe and chattel slavery still existed in parts of other continents. People born under the yoke were legally unable to keep secrets. The exact wording varies by jurisdiction. I've heard the words you list, bondsman...
