    Dual/Plural

The distinction between "plural" and "dual" has always escaped me. Maybe someone will post here, and clarify the titles to me. I have been interested in this for some time. Some Grand Lodges permit you to join one (1) lodge only. (Ex: West Virginia). In WV, when you apply for affiliation (and...

    concealed carry

I am in Atlanta for a brief business trip. I have visited a couple of Georgia lodges, and prominently posted, there is a poster up on the wall in every lodge room, stating, that no one is permitted to carry a weapon into the lodge room. I spoke with a retired law enforcement officer (Mason), and...

Cell phone use in the Lodge

In Virginia, cell phone use is taboo. Some lodges charge $10-$20, if a phone rings in a tyled meeting. (Exceptions are made for law enforcement, paramedics, doctors on call,etc.). Frankly, I prefer to leave the outside world behind, and have a quiet and peaceful lodge experience. I am on the...

    One Day Journey

Some rural lodges in Texas, are surviving, only because some Masons hold plural memberships, and "commute" between the different lodges. This is a "ticking time bomb"! When these men with plural memberships, cease to participate in Masonry, throught retirement, transfer, resignations, or death...

    One Day Journey

I used to work for the US Census Bureau (Statistical Data Collection). The demographic trends in Masonry, are frightening. In 2009 (Last year national statistics were available), of the 51 Grand Lodges listed, (This does not include Prince Hall), 48 Grand Lodges showed a net decrease in...

    Outdoor degree

In Kentucky, the lodges sometimes perform masonic degrees in Mammoth Cave (National Park). They load up, and travel deep, over one mile underground, and do the degree work in a natural rock formation. In Wyoming, a lodge there does a spectacular MM degree. They load up on pack mules, and go...

    Brother Richard Dreyfuss

I was there, and I witnessed Mr. Richard Dreyfuss, become Brother Richard Dreyfuss. Here is what happened: We met in the Scottish Rite building, 2800 16th St NW, Washington DC, at 0900, 10 June 2011. Mr. Dreyfuss began the EA degree at 0930am. He took the standard Craft degrees, using the...

    Plates are available.

Other states have similar "rebate" plans. In Kentucky, when you purchase a Masonic tag, $7 is automatically rebated to the Grand Lodge of KY. I am delighted to see that Texas finally has Masonic plates. I hope some of the brothers here, can post photos of their vehicles (incl. pickup trucks)...

My personal take on the Shrine

What is the hot sands? Cold Sands? What is the difference? As I'm thinking of joining the Shrine. Do they still do that at the Houston Temple? == Some Shrine centers (the word "Temple" is obsolete) have some funny hazing. Squirting with water, that sort of tom-foolery. It is called "hot...

    what would you do?

I am a Kentucky Mason, I reside in Virginia, and I work in Afghanistan. (I am back home for a couple of weeks). If there is anything I can do, perhaps a donation, just let me know. I will never shirk from helping a brother in distress.

    Any Canadian Masons here?

May 23 is Victoria Day in Canada. I wish all of our Canadian brethren a Happy Victoria day. If there are any Canadians here, please introduce your selves! When I was in Afghanistan, I was delighted to participate in Canada Lodge #1, chartered by the Grand Lodge of Ontario, Canada. Thanks for...

How long before you visited another lodge?

There were 7 (seven) operating lodges in my county (Warren County KY). I visited all of them, as soon as I could (within two months of my raising). I have visited lodges in 13 states, WashDC, and five (5) foreign countries. I even visited a Canadian-sponsored lodge in Afghanistan. One thing I...

My personal take on the Shrine

The Shrine has dropped the term "temples" . The correct term is Shrine "Center". (Some Shrine Centers, still display the word "temple" on their buildings, but the term is obsolete, notwithstanding.

Dual/plural memberships. Should Masons be able to join multiple lodges?

I am in Alexandria VA, for a short break. I will be heading back to the roof of the world, soon.

Would your lodge like to have a US Flag, flown in Afghanistan?

I have two(2) Canadian flags, flown in Afghanistan. If anyone wants one or both, please let me know.

    Needing advice

Have you considered posting your lodge minutes on your lodge website? You could also prepare a hard copy, and distribute it to the members as they arrive. Then just have a motion, does anyone have any objection to the dues being approved? If no one dissents, then have the WM decree that the...
