I've seen brothers of all types, many who felt they had bad memory, learn the memory work and progress in masonry. Don't sell yourself short before you try it!
That having been said, if you absolutely find yourself unable to memorize things regardless of how much time and effort you put into...
I get the feeling like I opened a big can of worms with my last question! I thank you for being so straightforward with me brother, your reply, as well as Brother Benjamin's, sort of confirmed the suspicions I had.
Thank you for this, good info to know!
I guess that's sort of the question. The brother in question isn't on a major committee and he was sort of doing the job anyhow, I kind of wonder if it's some sort of a gray area or I'm just strict?
Due to one of our projects we have going on involving the community, the brother was put on...
I was always led to believe one of the main reasons EAs and FCs couldn't wear the bling was because they wouldn't be as informed as a MM if someone were to notice it and start asking questions.
It makes sense to me but it's also pretty idealist. I know there are MMs out there with little more...
Maybe I'm off topic but I find myself wondering what would draw a member of the GLOTX to the PHGL?
I'm not asking this to sound negative, I'm know little about PH masonry so I'm genuinely curious as to what they do differently.
Do they take the craft more seriously? Are the degrees/meetings...
I haven't been able to find anything about this in the law book but this just doesn't seem right to me. It seems (to me) that EAs should be spending all of their Masonic time trying to learn whatever is required of their degree and not be occupied with any duties related to serving on a...
No, it's a horrible idea. People seem to think that showing more and more to the public will make more people want to join us or something. Why would anyone want to join when they see everything? The bottom line is it's just cheapening to the fraternity and it does more harm than good.
Also...
Welcome, glad to hear you're interested in our fraternity! You won't find a more noble institution anywhere.
That being said, is the only reason you wish to join because of your grandfather's affiliation?
I've been doing a bit of research lately, especially regarding European Concept and Traditional Observance lodges, and this ceremony keeps popping up.
Unfortunately, all I can find are brief references to it! Does anyone know the Grand Lodges stance on this, if any? I cant find much...
I just read this today:
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/did-medieval-knights-templar-influence-norway-gunman-161312473.html
I don't think it's anything that hasn't been mentioned yet but I felt I would share it just the same.
This. I had no idea that the magazine accepted articles! Hearing that it does makes me feel a little inspired, to echo what Bro. Dow stated, is it mentioned in the magazine that they accept articles?
No I wouldn't but if the brother was unaware or the concerns were false it might embarrass or upset him. I think in an ideal world we should be able to discuss these things freely but I just wonder if it's too optimistic to expect this to solve the problem with no side effects.
That being...
Maybe I'm getting off topic here, but if a brother has concerns or information about a potential candidate isn't it legal to approach the investigation committee? They could use that information in their investigation at that point.
I'm not sure how I'd feel about open discussion of...
It depends on how long you suspect you'll be at your new station. Moving around a lot can make it hard to commit yourself to the required work for each degree.
It also depends on how much work is expected of you and how quickly you're able to memorize things. I'd speak with the lodge first...
I don't feel it's so much a pessimistic standpoint as it is raising our standards. The quoted section may have needed to be worded differently, or perhaps clarified, but I really feel it's just trying to reiterate what is being said throughout most of the guide.
Maybe I'm a little bit of an...
I agree that it'd be hard in many lodges to get the brethren to accept the TO approach right off the bat. What I don't think I'm seeing discussed however is the possibility of slowly introducing it to a lodge.
Is this something that you don't believe is feasible? The only drawbacks that...
50 members? That seems like it'd make it hard for new lodges to get formed. I know we talked about bringing OES back to our lodge since we lost it several years ago. I think they needed to have around 50 or so people to help charter that as well. We don't really even have numbers like that in...
