What would you like to see changed in Masonry?

The Shrine is an appendant/concordant body of Masonry. Every Shriner is a Mason. The Grotto is an appendant/concordant body of Masonry. Every Prophet is a Mason. These organizations serve alcohol. Should the Shrine and Grotto cease serving alcohol? Freemasonry was founded in a tavern. The "Goose...

One-Day classes, What do YOU think?

I think it is very beneficial, to have some time between the degrees, to "absorb" the lessons. The exact time, varies with the individual. I was in Indiana (2008), and the GL of Indiana, leaves the time frame up to the individual lodge. If the "coach" of the individual is satisfied, that the man...

The rush to attract new members

I hope that you will not hold me personally responsible for the bad news, but here it is: http://www.msana.com/msastats.asp#us There is a joke we tell in our lodge. "What is the death rate for Masons"? answer- 100%, just like everybody else. ---------- Post added at 04:34 PM ----------...

Looking For Some Opinions On A Situation

(I am not a Roman Catholic). The current pope, is probably the most anti-Masonic pope, to sit in the chair of St. Peter, for a very long time. You can do a google search on Cardinal Ratzinger (his previous name), and read all about his feelings on the Craft. Catholics who are Masons, can be...

    Morals and Dogma

There have been some posts about the new "translation". Please see http://www.morals-and-dogma.com The text has been updated, into 21st century English. I also recommend "Commentaries on Morals and Dogma" by Henry Claussen. It is a "cliff's notes" version, and an excellent introduction into the...

One-Day classes, What do YOU think?

Should there be exceptions made in unusual circumstances, like a soldier deploying overseas? During WW2, many lodges operated "around the clock", doing degree work, 24 hours a day, for soldiers.

One-Day classes, What do YOU think?

Some states have "One-Day-Classes", where you arrive at the lodge building, at 0600am Saturday morning, and you leave at 600pm a Master Mason. What do you think about this?

In what state was George Washington made a mason?

Quite true. Virginia was a royal colony of Great Britain, when GW was made a Mason. He was made a Mason at Fredericksburg lodge #4, Fredericksburg VA. The lodge is on Princess Street. I have visited the lodge several times.

Afghanistan Masonic lodge needs battery-powered candles

Our lodge operates under the authority of the Grand Lodge of Ontario, Canada, F&AM. See: http://www.grandchapter-bc-yukon.ca/canadalodge.shtml If you can spare a ballot box, and/or battery powered candles, please let me know.

Afghanistan Masonic lodge needs battery-powered candles

Our lodge needs battery-powered candles for the altar. We are not permitted to have open flames in the lodge room. If you or your lodge, could spare some, we will be grateful. Send me your name and email, and I will send back the APO address. Thanks.

The rush to attract new members

Growth is good. Two(2) lodges that I have belonged to have had to consolidate. Gone with the wind. Masonry is losing members, all over the USA. In 2009, only two(2) Grand Lodges reported any increase in membership: New Mexico added 16, and Rhode Island added 143. The USA totals are: Totals...

Dual/plural memberships. Should Masons be able to join multiple lodges?

Two(2) of the lodges I have belonged to, have had to close and consolidate. Lodges are closing all over the USA, not only in Texas. It is sad to see so many on "life support". It is time to get Masonry growing again, and get an infusion of new members, and their financial support.

What would you like to see changed in Masonry?

I agree 1000%! I would love to see more Masonic education, as part of an overall "reworking" of our lodge meetings. We need to have more Masonic education, for our membership, as well as more interesting programs at the meetings. The state of Maryland has a tradition of exciting, stimulating...

What would you like to see changed in Masonry?

My sister and her husband are both attorneys. The concept in law is called the "Dram Shop Theory", or "Dram Shop Law". Depending on the state of jurisdiction, establishments that serve alcoholic beverages, can be held to liability if it can be proved that the establishment was negligent in their...

What would you like to see changed in Masonry?

The lodge is not liable. The stupid, irresponsible, idiot, who drank himself blind, and got behind the wheel is the responsible one. Fraternal organizations (EX: Moose, Elks, Eagles, K of C,etc). have alcohol. Masonic lodges in the USA (prior to the disaster of prohibition) had alcohol. The...

Lodge in Afghanistan needs a ballot box

Lodge in Afghanistan needs ballot box, electric candles Our lodge here in Afghanistan, needs a ballot box. We have several petitioners. If you or your lodge would send us one, we would be grateful. It does not have to be fancy or new, just serviceable. Please let me know if you can provide one...

What would you like to see changed in Masonry?

This is an interesting discussion. What is the difference between getting a beer, downstairs in the basement of the lodge building, and going next door, to the tavern for a beer? No difference. When I was in Fort Wayne IN, I met in the downtown Masonic building. The Mizpah Shrine is two blocks...

What would you like to see changed in Masonry?

Your concerns are valid. Blaming alcohol for automobile accidents, is like blaming pencils for misspelled words. Reality check. The USA is the only country, where nearly all Masonic lodges are dry. Lodges worldwide, have alcohol. USA lodges, prior to the disaster of Prohibition, Masonic lodges...

Dual/plural memberships. Should Masons be able to join multiple lodges?

We are fortunate, that we do not have to make a minimum number of meetings, per year. I was made a Mason in 1982. Since then, I have spent over 12 years in foreign countries. I am in Afghanistan now. It is impossible for me to attend my home lodge. I am glad that they will not kick me out, for...

    State-wide open house in Maryland , April 2, 2011

I agree, that a balance can be worked out. The Grand Lodge of NJ has billboards, and TV spots. I have not observed any detriment in NJ Freemasonry. Of Course, we should always be on guard, and carefully monitor the West Gate. It is the responsibility of every Mason, to ensure that only good men...
