There is nothing "virtual" about Internet 9659; it meets four times a year in various locations, with officers, regalia, etc. There is a mail list for members only, as well as a members only side of the website, but beyond that it is very much a "brick and mortar" lodge.

There are three lodges here, two have their own buildings, and the third uses them both, depending on the type of meeting (Stated in Santa Cruz, Lodge of Instruction/Agape in Soquel).

As has been mentioned before, if an organization requires members to be Master Masons, then they open themselves to Grand Lodge scrutiny.

There are a number of "Templar" organizations in the world besides the Masonic ones, and as was previously mentioned, none have a direct lineage to the original. Freemasonry, per se, does not use Templar images. Some of the appendant bodies do, however. The image you posted shows some of those...

I thought it was pretty spot on. A lot of men come to Freemasonry expecting a service organization, and that isn't what it's all about. Or shouldn't be, at least.
