    Ukraine?

So far as I am aware, there has been no 'call for assistance' from the Grand Lodge of Ukraine, and if there is we should await guidance from our own governing bodies before responding collectively. Respectfully, you were not there: the remarks as I said went far beyond assisting distressed...

    Ukraine?

I've just got in from a Royal Arch chapter meeting where the chaplain was asked to speak on this by the HP and in doing so, went way beyond offering prayers for the civilian victims of war. IMHO this crossed the line into politics and has no place in a tiled lodge whatsoever.

    Masonic connection (continued)

Well, I emailed Grand Chapter and received a nice, prompt reply (GLOVA take note!) asking me to call them. I handed it off to my wife who is a chapter officer and a close friend of the incoming WM, and the upshot of the conversation was that they (GC) would consider this a case of a connection...

    Masonic connection (continued)

It's not entirely clear, but it would appear to preclude the mother of an existing OES member. Unfortunately there is From the Grand Chapter web site Who may join: Only men who are Master Masons are eligible and only women with specific Masonic relatives may be members. Affiliated Master Masons...

    Masonic connection (continued)

Another interesting question which I can't seem to find an answer to (Grand Chapter of VA is totally opaque): our incoming Worthy Matron was able to join through a connection to her uncle (a Master Mason). Now her mother wishes to join, but being on the maternal side of the family does not have...

    Greetings from Nova scotia

Greetings and welcome! I recently took part in a MM degree or a brother who had been regularly initiated and the"storm" broke they day before he was scheduled to turn in his Fellowcraft catechism and everything shut down, so he was left 'hanging' in limbo for 18 months!

    Unsolicited Appointment to JW.

I guess it's a Virginia thang.......the PM Degree is conferred by a Royal Arch chapter on MM's as part of the preparation for advancing in line. It confers no title or status and is basically a short course of instruction. SW's have to obtain a Warden's Certificate in order advance to the...

    Unsolicited Appointment to JW.

Back to the OP for a moment, do you have to be qualified to even be considered for JW? In my jurisdiction it is legal requirement to have the Past Masters Degree before taking a Warden's chair. As to the WM visiting your workplace to 'chew you out', that is a big no-no and I would consider...

    Entire Progressive Line quits!

Yes it was. The SW did indeed have his officer line and programs for the year planned out when he was blind sided; as the remaining events were step up night and election/installation was problematic as in theory at least, he had no chair to step up to. The JW and I did attend though, because...

    Conceit, Egotism, Pride -- Why?

I never meant to imply that it did, my Brother; OES is an appendant body with its own structure and rituals. It is still a Masonic body however, and my life expectancy would be very short if told my wife otherwise! I would be interested to learn about the OES GC's allow entry by...

    Conceit, Egotism, Pride -- Why?

One can join the OES if you are a Master Mason (yes, it is co-ed!), have a relative or an ancestor who was a Mason in good standing at the time of his death, or an OES member. Also if you were a member of one of the youth groups (Job's Daughters or the Rainbow Girls).

    Entire Progressive Line quits!

I cannot speak for the thoughts of others, nor can I speculate on what might have happened. The three of us (SD and both Wardens, JD resigned as an officer but remains a member), have already moved on, so that peace and harmony may return to our mother lodge; I am told another PM has...

    Entire Progressive Line quits!

Postscript: I was notified by our WM late last night that PM behind this takeover has been suspended from Freemasonry for six months, effective immediately! No details on what the charges were yet, but it must have been pretty serious. We live in interesting times.

    Entire Progressive Line quits!

G'Day! In our jurisdiction, a candidate for WM has to have a Warden's certificate signed off by the District Instructor of Work before he is eligible for election. Basiclly you have to be able to open, close, dispense with the Lodge, and go from labor to refreshment as well as conferring all...

    Entire Progressive Line quits!

UPDATE The SW had a conference call with the DDGM last night and while there were things discussed that I'm not privy to, he said that we are doing the right thing by moving and that this unmasonic conduct is part of a pattern going back well over a year, but that there was nothing that he (the...

    Entire Progressive Line quits!

Normally the SW nomination is automatic, but since this all came to light, the SW has decided that even if elected, he does not want to preside over a divided lodge, and after 22 years loyal service and hardwork to get to this point, will move on

    Entire Progressive Line quits!

Both the SW and I have resigned (letters went in today) in our current year. Academic really as step night is in two weeks, with election/installation in December

    Entire Progressive Line quits!

I've just discovered that our SW has been approached and asked to step aside after four years of hard work so that a PM can be elected and installed; several of the line officers have also be approached and to their credit, all have declined. Said PM was in the East for five years, during which...
