    Greetings Brothers

Being relatively new as a Master Mason and interested in all things Masonic I started reading The Book of Hiram and found that there are moments in the stars and planets that seem to happen every 40 years and other patterns that are in multiples of 40 years, for example the “myth of Shenkinahâ€. The question is would this have anything to do with the Mayan date of 12/21/2012. Is this in the cycle of Venus? Is this significant to Masonry and if so would there be any Masonic gathering for the event.

    Thank You for any incite

NOt many ancient culture did not gather and plan activities around the cycles of the planets but unfortunatley that practise has been lost by the masses or at least it is no longer is recognized as that fact especialy in Masonry. I would like to look more into the date but I believe that is the date the Myains predicted as the end of the world and Masonry has no plans to meet for that day unless Grand Lodge happens to meet that day. NOt sure what you are asking about the cycle of Venus are you reffering to the 584 day astrological cycle from sun to Venus or the 8 year pentagonal cycle?

Yes that date is the date the Myains call for the end of time (or as some thing the end of time as we currently know it). Venus is said to rule over love/romance and in astrology is said to making things easier. The number 40 comes up in all three of the Abrahamic religions: 40 days and 40 nights, Muhammad was 40 when he go married and when he rcvd the 'revelation', Moses and the Jews spent 40 yrs in the desert, etc etc.

I cant think of a reason for Masons to gather on that date, but I might be missing something...

Bro. Wyndell, being as we are in Texas, might be a nice day for a ride... Would make the Brothers up North jealous... :)

The Hopi also have prophecies about the end of an age, like the Mayans do. Got a book on it. Very interesting stuff. I think the Sioux also have the Prophecy of the Seven Thunders.

But I think they're more inline with Revelations in that nobody knows the time.
