I only discovered the MOOC a month ago. MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course. It seems that lots of famous universities are videoing their course lectures and making them available for free on the internet. There are literally thousands of free courses available. Of course there are "opportunities" to spend money. You can usually buy a "Certificate of Completion" for $49, and there are links to buy the books that the course material is based on. But if you just want to know stuff, you can bypass all that and just study the course material that is provided for free.

I recently finished the course "Learning How to Learn". https://www.coursera.org/learn/learning-how-to-learn/home/welcome It has great tips on how to memorize things. It taught me how the brain and the mind work together to remember stuff. I made some changes in how I work at memorizing ritual and the results were startling. I am now working with my brain instead of against it.

Another course that I recommend (the one I am taking now) is Social Psychology. https://www.coursera.org/course/socialpsychology Social Psychology (paraphrased definition) is the study of the effect that people have on one another. This course in teaching me to think better by allowing me to understand the things that influence my thinking. Since I have heard Logic described as "an attempt to find the best way to think about things" I think this class has information that should be valuable to all Masons.

Imbedded in the class is a forum (obviously I love those) so you can share your thoughts with others who are taking the class. I realize that this post is not for everyone. Some Masons already know everything (just ask 'em). :) But if you are up for a new experience I recommend giving some free learning a shot. Who knows, you just might learn something valuable.

P.S. I stuck this in the P, R and S forum because learning is a philosophy of life ;)

It's possible to do all of the material of an MBA with very close to zero expense. Of course there is no actual MBA degree at the end, but the skills do matter.

So far my on-line course material has only been computer stuff in my own field.
