Are any of you fellows planning on going to the Feast of Tishri in Houston this month?

I would consider going. I haven't been in the AASR for long. I don't know anything about the feast. I assume that a suit and tie are appropriate. I assume the SR hat is worn. What else? I'm interested but intimidated a little about going.

Which feast of Tishri is this? Tishri has Rosh Ha-shana, Sukkot, Yom Kippur, Shemini Atzeret, and Simchat Torah. Tishri is the most feast-laden of the Jewish months.

It's the important one, of course... the one that almost all the various Scottish Rite valleys sponsor this time of year ;-)

    It's a Scottish Rite thing...

    I won't be there either.

Too much packed into a 24-7 week next week.

I certainly hope someone is going back for seconds every year. I've bought a ticket several years in a row without making it to the feast due to this job I have.

Really, don't you agree that that is a very poor work ethic?

Enjoy the feast and I hope to see you in October.

What is the feast? I am interested in joining the SR. And have my application all filled out but not sure what to do next.

I would graciously appreciate any help.

It looks like my work schedule won't allow me to make it this year.

TxMason, I'm pretty new to the AASR so I haven't been to the Feast of Tishri yet. Perhaps one of the other brothers can describe it better.

I wish I remember where I got the following material. I used it as a source in preparing my Venerable Master's talk at the beginning of last year's event. You might find it helpful:

    'Bout time TxMason! 'Bout time!

You will be contacted very soon. I'd expect it within a few weeks if you haven't already been contacted. Not for sure when the next Reunion is, but you will be in it.

Make very sure to ask where the wardrobe committee is set up and come see me. I'll be the big ugly with no hair. Of course, I grew above the hair line. And ... with my various other physical abnormalities I can't be missed. Just ask where I am or let someone know where I can find you.

It will be good to have you in the Rite. You'll enjoy it I promise.

    Jim,

Got accepted and will be initiated Jan 24 2013. I'm not sure where to go to. I was told I'd have to wait until June/July of 2013 to receiver the 32 degree. Why so long? Also, how should I dress? Any are there any masons that would go with me? As I am not good at driving night. If someone would drive. I will pay for gas and dinner. I live on Lake Conroe in Walden. I'd like to do photography for the Rite and be a part of a flying club if they have one.

See DM for my cell phone number :)

    Best,
    Jerry

It looks like it comes from one of the appendices to the 14th degree in de Hoyos' The Scottish Rite Ritual: Monitor and Guide, that you get with the Master Craftsman program... I just ran across that while studying this weekend. It's showing me that the Scottish Rite is even deeper than I thought it was ;-)

Why so long? I think your answer is that the Houston Valley will be conferring many more degrees during the calendar year. I suspect the 32nd will not be offered at each Reunion, rather once, possibly twice per year.

    Dress, Coat and Tie.

I will be there working the wardrobe committee. If we can't find anyone closer, I'll run up to the lake and drive down with you. We'd have to get there early enough for me to fulfill my duties.

Currently, due to slowdowns in permits, I don't think we will be in the new temple until 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2013. So January '13 will definitely be at Holland No. 1.

Good to have you aboard brother!
