You're a MM at that point.

You still have to learn the catechism though. ;)

In Calif. you are a MM after you get your degree however if you want to visit another Lodge you must do the catechism.

Short answer.... yes, there's a proficiency lecture that you must turn in at some time after your master's degree. Time limits differ, Arkansas has no particular limit, but in Texas you must turn in within 90 days (or so), plus, you cannot petition any of the appendent bodies such as York or Scottish Rite until you've turned in your MM lecture.

I'm Canada you. And be elected to a chair or join an appending body unless you have proven your apron, at least in Ontario

I take it by the question, you have not been raised yet, so I will only say this, "Wait and see". Listen to the entire degree and you will find your answer. To give you an idea, think about the EA and FC degrees and the legend behind our fraternity. I will say that the memorization that you did, is only part of the work, there is more to it.

I remember learning my proficiency for each degree... I miss those days. I wish I had more time to learn and teach new Masons. Prior to a degree, I like to tell candidates to "listen well"

Youngblood, I need to respectfully state that this is a question that shows that you may be getting a little ahead of yourself. Brother, there is no one on this Forum who will (or should not) give you any information regarding a Degree which you have not attained. SLOW DOWN.

You are studying in your Second Degree at this point; all you should be focusing on is gaining proficiency in THIS Degree. The Third Degree will come to you soon enough. The beauty of Masonry is that each Degree obtained adds a little more information to an inquiring mind.

Please trust and allow my District 15 Brothers in your Lodge to teach you the information when they feel you are ready. No need to worry about anything related to the Third Degree just yet. You will learn about that in due time. I will remain one of your biggest supporters, and will also assist you with the knowledge contained in that Degree WHEN IT IS TIME.

I guess my eagerness is because I feel like a sponge that is trying to absorb all that is before me. I will be patient and trust in my brothers and allow masonry to have its perfect work in my life as have those that have come this way before me...

Trust your guide, and fear no danger..................this is a MARATHON, Young Brother, not a SPRINT...........this is a Way of Life, and a SEARCH FOR TRUTH as well as the pursuit of KNOWLEDGE OF SELF...................handle your Memory Work one Degree at a time............once you are raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason, then we can send you in different directions on the History, Philosophy, and SCIENCE behind FREEmasonry..............but first, you must learn the foundation of what we study, The Ritual, one Degree at a time......................
