What Are the Top Questions YOU Get as A Master Mason?

Good afternoon Brethren! My name is Matt Ross and I am a Master Mason of the Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan in the United States.

I am in the process of starting a YouTube channel to put to rest some of the myths and questions about the fraternity and to discuss Freemasonry in an engaging social environment and to reach my generation and the next generation of Masons.

My question to the brethren here: What are some of the questions you get from non-Masons inquiring about the fraternity and how do YOU go about answering them within your jurisdiction?

Please include your Lodge number and affiliation in your answers!

Thank you so much brethren! I look forward to seeing your replies!

Questions were more common when Dan Brown and National Treasure were at the height of popularity.

Another one I've been asked more than once, and it saddens me to core, is "Are y'all like a charity organization?" Or similarly (today actually) "It's sort of like the Rotary or Lions, right?" Unfortunately that's the common public perception in an attempt to curb the "secretive, illuminati" image of the past. Hence a lack of interest in Masonry by the profane and even fellow Masons. Charity organization or social, dinner club? Sounds pretty boring to me and most people.

Right exactly. I even find myself using that as a way to curb the Illuminati accusations I get sometimes. I guess finding the way to communicate what Masonry is comes with experience.

(1) don't you worship Satan ?
(2) your in with the illuminati ?
(3) masons have there hands in politics ?

My answers to these are

1 not enough room in the lodge room

2 do I look rich ?

3 if we did have our hands in politics, our country would be in better shape.
