I like to be across from Brother Bryan, in Curmudgeon Row.

But to answer the spirit of your question, I'd say JW. Especially during Degrees.

I haven't been able to sit where I'd really like in quite some time.

On the bench between the JW and the Sec., right next to my grandfather. :)

I usually sit in the north during degree work. Not many brothers seem to sit in the north. I don't know if it superstition on my brothers' part, but I like to see a balanced lodge room. So you'll usually find me on the north wall striving to lend balance to the lodge room

1) We each only get to be candidate once per degree. Far and away my favorite but I have already done them my one time each in the orders I'm a member.

2) Among the officer chairs my favorite is SD because he's the one who walks candidates around during their degrees. There are quiet times when you can whisper meaning to the candidate as you walk them around. Brothers have approached me years later thanking me for doing that.

3) Among the sideliner chairs my favorite is listening to someone else presenting a Masonic Education talk. My next favorite is myself speaking as the presenter. Better anyone doing a Masonic Education talk no matter the topic than no one doing one.

Physically? As long as I'm near another sideliner or near one of the officer chairs, I'm good with the location. It's not like any blue lodge I've attended is so big it has a balcony like happens at some GLs.

It depends. If you are talking about degree parts, I like to give the lectures, so that means the WM station in the East. If it's a stated meeting, or I'm not taking part in a degree and just observing, I like to sit in the North to balance out the lodge.

I recently had the pleasure of attending an EA Degree where not one single word was spoken from the sidelines. Truly inspirational.

During degrees , in the East . As of this December I will be where we in my lodge send old Past Masters to grow roots , the Tyler's chair and during stated meetings that is my favorite chair . I will be there until I die or give it up , not that I will complain it is a free dues card after all . On the sidelines ... I can care less , were ever I flop down .

I like the north, but most Brothers don't realize that once Raised...the stigma on that side is no longer an issue. As YOU are a beacon. (There are some other esoteric reasons why it isn't an issue like when you start off as a candidate.) As a newly Raised Master I felt obligated to sit there to show my deference and that I am the least experienced.

I'd read about that tradition for E:.A:., F:.C:., & newer M:.M:. to sit there in the north and the P:.M:.s beside the W:.M:. along the East or the SE. The SE so they could correct and counsel the W:.M:. and the SE so they could harrass and irritate the Secretary... :)

Eventually I get lonely if no others join me so I like being somewhere along the South. You can see and hear more at midfield anyhow...

One of the openings I have learned invites the Masters and PM to sit in the east. Having at least one there as a prompter and mentor helps a lot. My times in the east I asked a senior mentor PM to sit as Chaplain for that reason.

Some Jurisdictions have the Immediate Past Master in the East, next to the WM, probably for similar reasons.
