The only reason I ask because I don't find it fair and I always hate it when anti- masons bring it up and say we're just a bunch of racist old men!

This thread should probably be in some other forum. It's really not about anti-Masonry.

I can't really speak for the states that still don't have mutual recognition, but I'm certain that there are vestiges of racism involved, and there are also undoubtedly some brothers who would be perfectly fine with having men of different races join their own lodge, but object to recognition on the basis of "territorial exclusivity" of Grand Lodges, in other words that any jurisdiction should only have one operating Grand Lodge. Those men would have no problem with a uniting of the "mainstream" and PHA Grand Lodges into one, but the racists would never want to recognize men of different races as Masons no matter what.

Well racism is the reason they began. And Brother Mark mentions legitimate concerns brought up today about territorial concerns but it still comes back to racism. They should be fully accepted it is a part of our American history. I don't think it is fair today to say okay let's merge.

I figure it's okay to offer a merge. The Antients and the Moderns managed it back in the day. But I also figure it's okay to decline such an offer because of the value of the two parallel heritages that are now two centuries old.

Jurisdictions where recognition has been in place for years have been discussing the option. I doubt it will happen any time soon, because of the heritage not because of the power present in grand line offices.

Very well said. You articulated what I was thinking.
