Master's Hat

When I was in the East, I wore a fedora. Personally I do not care about style, more about personal preference. Cowboy hats are/were not my thing. I bought a handmade fedora from Peters Bros in Ft Worth. They make hats in house and also order in hats.

I couldn't convince myself to go the cowboy hat route, either, so I bought a fedora. I was surprised to find the same brand, Scalia, in Academy! They have a few shades of black and brown, and I'm definitely buying the brown one eventually to be my Indiana Jones hat.

Great price, considering I only wear it when I have to. When I preside over open events, I tend to leave it off. Most people understand the speaker is due attention, regardless of his headgear.

Not to resurrect such an old thread, but thought I'd post up a pic of my new headpiece from Peters Brothers. I'm not the WM, but I do enough degree conferrals now and work in the Council that I want my own hat (I'm weird about wearing someone else's hat). Does anyone know if there is a ruling in GLoTX against a feather in band?

I've only served as WM for degrees (usually giving the lecture) and I wear a Fedora or a Pork Pie with a wide bring (cowboy hats do not look good on my, though an LBJ style does, if I could afford one right now). In Texas, the WM's hat MUST have a crown and a full brim, so a newsboy cap would NOT be acceptable. We did have a PM that wore Derby/bowler during his year in the East. My pork pie has a feather, as do some of the cowboy hats worn by PMs when they are in the East for degrees, and I know of no regulation forbidding feathers in the band in Texas.

Do you bros. Have any advice on buying my first hat? I have a straw hat from panama bob from the fedora lounge. I'd like a hat that has a low crown and a wide brim and can be worn year around.

Best,

Jerry

I've worn a Panama Jack both this year and last year in the East.

My last cowboy hat was green and had white stagecoaches on it.

My sister told me a few weeks ago the last time she saw it was in a toy box in the back of the closet.

Yep, I was smaller when I was younger.

I have a hat that is made by www.sunbody.com & I'm always getting compliments & asked where I got it. Many say it makes a great WM hat. It's a palm leaf hat, but if you check the web site you'll see it's really pretty neat looking. Mine is the top hat & one that looks like the "Abe Lincoln" stove pipe hat. LOL What is neat is the I learned from the website that I can run warm water over it & re shape it repeatedly & I have. When I "clown up" with the shrine I extended all up & when I go to other functions I bring it down a little & has a flat top. It looks like a tall "Pinkerton" hat (when extended all the way up) that a brother wears to GLoT every year except mine is taller & is made from palm leaves. I purchased from a vendor during a parade event in Ennis. Everyone that sees it really likes it. When you check the website you can find a dealer near you.

I went with a dark brown, Indiana Jones-style fedora. I'm not one for a stingy brim. Debating on getting myself one of the colonial tricorn hats (Harry Truman was pictured presiding in one of these at one time), or maybe a nice Confederate beehive hat for when I spend more time in the East next year, but so far I only need it for degree conferrals and the occasional practice session.

I have a nice old Fedora and I love the thing. I have set in the East a few time for degree work and I wear mine there. Its was a gift and it feels kinda old school. I am tempted to go all out Abe when my turn in the East come. Normal is boring.
The first lodge that I visited after being raised the WM wore a fedora. Thought it looked cool.

I've always been intrigued by the brother that wears his "Pinkerton" hat at GLoT every year.

Here's a hat that I like

Here's one that I own.

I get a lot of compliments on it and many say that's a good hat to wear in the East. I always change the height on it as all you do is wet it with warm water, shape it and let it dry. I've done this many times as these are instructions that came with it. I'll let you know if I do in a couple of years if I decide to wear it as WM. LOL

I believe these are all available in black as well.
