One Day Chapter and Council

About twenty years ago, I helped put on a one day festival for the YR Bodies I was part of then. It took a lot of work, but it was worthwhile. We did all of the degrees in full form, but using exemplars instead of putting each person through separately. I have mixed feelings about it; I really appreciate the idea of treating each degree separately, and having the time to fully digest the lessons taught. But, I am realistic in that it is much harder to ensure that we consistently have enough people to put on the degrees in that manner.
Agreed. We, too, used exemplars. But as there were only 5 candidates each had a chance to actually participate in at least one of the rituals.
We went through more than just the "mandatory" number of degrees, and we were also presented with "A Bridge to Light" and the "Scottish Rite Ritual and Monitor" for self study later on.
Same here.
Would I have liked to have taken part in each degree individually? ABSOLUTELY! But it just isn't going to happen nowadays. I do, however, have a handy-dandy Scottish Rite Passport to keep track of which degrees I have seen.
Also agreed.

I just received the chapter degrees last Friday night and Saturday morning. I can see where it might be too much to take in so quickly but it also takes a lot of people and work. I think 4 different chapters in the area did the work. As for me, being an otr driver it just works better for me to do it that way. I'm very lucky that the secretary of one of the lodges I belong to is DDGM and a DDHP so if I have questions he's a phone call away. Council degrees will be held at the end of November and I'm planning on attending those. By the way there were 2 Brothers that finished up chapter degrees Saturday and then drove an hour and a half to receive the Scottish Rite degrees that same day.

Congratulations Brother.

Sometimes you just gotta get what you can when and where you can. Hopefully what you get sparks the ember that lights your personal quest for more light. I have been a mason for almost 25 years and I have learned more in the last few months than ever!

My initiation to the AASR was a two day class, and I think they realized that was TOO abbreviated. Get the most you can! OTR should (hopefully) allow you to get some audiobooks on the craft and learn while you drive.

Best Wishes!!
