Sorry Ben. But you seem to making a lot of posts looking for arguments without actually doing some basic research so you can have a stance. I might suggest actually looking up the schism between the Antients and Moderns and them come back to debate it. I can guarantee that thread would be much more interesting than just asking vague questions.

I think one thing to note is Grand Lodges are by their very nature controlling entities. I think we probably need them if we want to preserve things like being over 18, male and not letting criminals become Freemasons. What makes a GL good or bad is what they control and how they control it.
As to the Ancients and Moderns - one thing I am always interested to know is how social class played in the divide between the two....

That's not speaking very highly of the decision making capabilities of Brothers within a lodge.

Indeed. That's one of the tensions.. but GLs should be there to regulate "rogue" lodges, not micromanage lodges and/or members generally.. and I am sure we have both has experience of some of the stellar decision making in lodges..

Regulate? No. Only acknowledge that they are not regular.
and I am sure we have both has experience of some of the stellar decision making in lodges..
yes, and then some.
