Would you bring leftovers up to lodge and serve them to your brothers before a stated meeting? To me this isnt right,but i have seen it happen.I think that for a stated meeting,the person/s bringing the food up should try and do a little bit better than 4 day old chicken....thoughts

I dont have a problem with it. Ive seen stewards spend WAY more than is contributed. Ive seen many brothers get 2-3 plates of food and not donate a dime. So much for "out of the value of anything". There is nothing that says the lodge has to feed people. Ive been to several where a package of bologna, a slice of onion, a piece of bread and a glass of tap water was all that was offered.

I personally do not have an issue with left-overs for any Lodge meeting. Of course my lodge has for the last several years well equipped Stewards, and we have eaten high on the hog...

If the budget for meals is super low, and the Stewards are paying out of pocket for a majority of the meal then I my self might opt for the left-over option. For example, OES, and YR Chapter & Council are pot-luck; left overs are a perfect option.

We have also recently had a FC Degree where we bought deli lunch meat and fixings for the Brethren, and had a LOT left over thus creating meals on nights we would not normally serve a meal, just to keep the food from wasting...

So, no I do not have a problem with left-overs at any occasion especially if they are good!!

thats just it .."good",some things do not make very good leftovers and chicken that is 4 days old is one of them...give me some good sandwich fixings any day.

There are too many decent things a person can get to feed the lodge that will not break the bank then to allow "cold" dry chicken to be the meal.

lodge pays the one who brought the food at stated,and it seems that the better the meal,the more the lodge gets in donations.

My own humble opinion is that left overs are ok, as long as they are still edible and served in a hygienic way.

All the lodges I visit or belong to, the stewards pay up front, and members are asked to put in a dontation in the kitty car. If if donations dont equal the cost the stewards eat the loss (so to speak). It works out over the year to about breaking even in most cases.

Yup. any stew like concoction is best about day 3. But not fried chicken. ever.

Lodge can be special or not but it all starts with the meal, I do not mind leftovers but the image it projects to new guys is bad.

I have had left overs at Lodge meeting left over from other Lodge meetings. I think left overs from home might be a different story. Waste not want not and what not...

I have only been to a handful of Lodges around Texas aside from my own. I would venture to say I have sat in more lodges out of state than in state.

I'd like to know is it common practice around Texas to serve a free meal and accept donations like it is at my Lodge in Austin?

Most of the Lodges I have been to in other states have a meal catered and served by either the ladies of the Eastern Star, Jobs Daughters, or Rainbow Girls on Stated meeting night. Each brother or attendee that would like to eat pays a fee of 5-10 dollars to cover the costs (plus a markup to raise money for the respective organizations I am sure)

I have noticed that those meals that I have eaten and paid for "up front" have been much better quality than the buffet line "paper plate and refried bean or cold cuts" that you donate money for. It also seems like a great way to support our Ladies. I have observed that if a brother cannot pay for their meal the Worshipful Master will make arrangements or take up a collection to cover the cost of the meal.

Does this happen anywhere around Texas or is this something that only happens in other states?

Traditionally, we donate our "leftovers" to the homeless shelter immediately after stated meetings. We do not keep them for a week and then reserve them.
