The internet is here to stay, and lodge newspapers (printed, and sent in the US Mail), are expensive and obsolete. I would like your opinions on whether non-sensitive lodge proceedings (the minutes), be posted on line, and/or published in the lodge electronic (or print) newsletter. Some (not...
I will be doing some work in Camp Eggers, Afghanistan. I do not think that we can establish a lodge there. I would like to meet other Masons, and start a "Masonic Square and Compasses" Club. If you are interested, please post here, or send me a PM.
Freemasonry is a non-denominational. non-sectarian, inter-faith organization. As you get to know more about the Craft, you may find that your religious experience is strengthened and enhanced. You will meet men from a whole "rainbow of faiths". May the Great Architect of the Universe, guide your...
The MM degree is not the end, it is a beginning. I encourage you to consider one or more of the appendant/concordant bodies. The York Rite, and the Holy Royal Arch, continues the legend. And have you considered the Shrine? It is the celebratory and public aspect of Freemasonry. See...
I have attended lodges in five(5) foreign nations. I have never contacted my Grand Lodge ,prior to visiting. If you have a valid dues card (or patent) from a recognized Grand Lodge, just go to the international lodge, and ask for admittance. I did some research, though. I was traveling to...
The Grotto is also called M.O.V.P.E.R. Mystic Order Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm. The Grotto has moderate use of alcoholic beverages, and poker games, and all sorts of family activities. The nearest Grotto to my residence is in Fredericksburg VA. When I return from my international...
I have seen the points facing in, primarily in northern states. In southern states, most men wear the ring with the points facing out. I believe that the direction of the man is more important than the direction of the ring.
I have lived in Saudi Arabia (1991 and 1997). Freemasonry, and all such organizations are totally illegal in Saudi Arabia. You should be very cautious and circumspect about Freemasonry in any country, with a muslim-majority population. Nevertheless, there are lodges which operate in some of...
(I am a civilian contractor, I have been working in Afghanistan). There are lodges on some (but not all) military bases. In the USA, there are almost always lodges in the cities near the bases. Unhappily, there were no mainstream lodges working on the military bases in Iraq, during Operation...
We tried to get a lodge on Al Asad Air Base, Iraq. Only for USA Freemasons, since Iraqis were forbidden to enter the base. We never got a charter. I am relocating to Kabul, Afghanistan. There are no working USA lodges there, but I intend to establish an informal "Square and Compasses" club.
Re: What benefits will I gain in life from becomin
There are many benefits to Masonic membership. Some are visible and tangible, some are symbolic. For example- Every Master Mason is paid "Master's wages". These wages are symbolic, but nevertheless real. In fact when you join, you are brought...
You need not be a Christian to petition Freemasonry in the USA. However, the vast majority of USA Masons practice the Christian religion. There are over 100 appendant and concordant bodies in the masonic "family" of organizations. Some (but not all) of these have more specific requirements. The...
I encourage you to purchase a "Masonic passport" to keep a record of the lodges you visit in your Masonic career. I encourage to visit a nearby lodge, and observe a MM degree as a visitor. You may even wish to volunteer for a part in the degree.
There are many reasons why men join the Craft, and then drop out. I find it interesting (but sad) that more men leave due to resignations, demits, and suspension for non-payment of dues, than leave due to death. See...
