    Belonging to other groups

There are over 100 (one hundred) appendant/concordant bodies in the Masonic "family" of organizations. Some are very open and public, like the Shriners (Ancient Arabic Order, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine). Some are very obscure, like the Royal Order of Quetzlcoatl. Some are "fun" organizations...

    Afghanistan Lodges

I have been working on contracts in Afghanistan since 2004. Please see my blog http://www.cemab4y.blogspot.com The only working lodges in Afghanistan are Prince Hall and Canadian. I visited the Canadian lodge many times, when I was posted to Kandahar. I am very sad that no US Grand Lodge...

Has your lodge ever been vandalized?

We had a series of plastic "backlit" panels for the Craft Lodge, and all of the appendant bodies. Someone crashed all of them.

    Your Ring

The ring you describe is perfectly acceptable. If you travel overseas, particularly in Europe, you will see the skull and crossbones more frequently (in masonic context). If you purchase a ring (or other Masonic bling) from a reputable site, you can be certain that the items are "acceptable". If...

Should a new MM wait for a period of time, before petitioning an appendant body?

Should a new MM wait for a period of time, before petitioning an appendant body? I believe the decision should be up to the individual. Some Masons feel that a new MM should hold off for some months, or even a year, before petitioning the York Rite/Scottish Rite (or some other appendant body)?

When did the "decline" start, and are we still in "decline"?

One idea I have proffered, is involving new Masons in the "life" of the lodge right away. Each new Mason should accept a "calling", that is some way to contribute "sweat equity" to the lodge, and to Masonry in general. Most men will be flattered, to learn that the lodge needs their participation...

When did the "decline" start, and are we still in "decline"?

What an excellent presentation. (FYI: I used to work for the US Census Bureau in statistical data collection and analysis). The "raw" numbers look just awful. And the larger Grand Lodges show the largest declines (California, Texas, etc). When 48 out of 51 Grand Lodges show a decline, then it is...

What does your Lodge do wrong?

Freemasonry is a "work in progress". We live in a world in which the only constant is change. And Freemasonry must change and adapt, if the institution is going to survive. The Craft can make changes in administrative procedures, and still remain true to our ancient landmarks. I have started a...

    Establish Lodge in Iraq

I have spent the last nine(9) years, working in Iraq and Afghanistan. No USA lodge (other than Prince Hall) has ever wanted to establish a lodge in the combat zones, for US military and civilian personnel. Check out my blog: http://www.cemab4y.blogspot.com

    Good Books to read??

You should read "A Pilgrim's Path" by John Robinson. It is possibly the finest book ever written about Masonry, by a non-Mason. Mr. Robinson wanted to write a book about Masonry, and since he was not a Mason, he figured he could be objective, and not be biased. He wrote an excellent book, and he...

    I want a chili recipe

Actually , Cincinnati chili does not have beans in the actual chili. You serve it up in "layers". You take a plate, and put on a layer of spaghetti. Then you ladle on a layer of chili. And if you choose, you can add a layer of beans. Then you can add a layer of chopped onions, and then a layer...

Would you purchase a Texas Freemason License Plate?

Here is a listing of all states which have Masonic license plates (and appendant bodies). Georgia currently has a Prince Hall Masonic plate. Arkansas has a Masonic plate, but Arkansas Masons (other than Prince Hall), are forbidden from purchasing and displaying the tag. Florida is scheduled to...

Would you purchase a Texas Freemason License Plate?

I am the one who initiated the legislation in Kentucky, to get Masonic license plates. If your state does not yet have them, you can get your state's Department of Motor Vehicles, to bring them in. I will be glad to advise anyone, who would like to get masonic plates for their state.

    Your Ring

I do a lot of international work. I prefer to wear my stainless steel ring, when I am deployed to Afghanistan. I also have a steel wedding ring that I wear overseas. I have my Grandfather's diamond heirloom ring locked up in the safe back home. Don't want to take a chance losing it.

Masonic Employment Bureaus, Can we bring them back?

--I disagree. Grand Lodges and lodges have assisted worthy brothers in seeking employment since the establishment of Masonry. During the depression of the 1930's the unemployment rate for Masons was much lower than for the general public, because MASONS looked out for the jobs, and assisted...
