That's how the opening happens in 2 of my 3 jurisdictions. Texas is different (That could be a tautology, chuckle) in this detail. The JD work got moved the the TL in this case.
There are different types of votes.
1) There are the votes of the representatives on the floor at GL. These are the pedestal officers at least, plus depending on the jurisdiction some fraction of the PMs, plus depending on the jurisdiction some number of GL granted votes for past whatever and...
I learned it as referring to the movable and immovable ashlars in one of the lectures.
Movable ashlars are placed somewhere for the moment. Immovable ashlars are stationed permanently as a part of an edifice. In architecture let's call it load bearing or not. This isn't just a matter of...
The primary thing to include in your email is an expectation that most lodges don't respond to their emails. Which isn't about the text of the email at all. it's why I suggest sending an email but never waiting on a response just knocking on the door when you can.
Say you have learned that to...
Patience is one of the virtues we teach. I've got a very thick skull and it's been soaking in very, very, slowly in my case!
Email this month, knock on the door next month works great. Try the phone as well if you have access. Have a good summer training!
When folks write "down sizing" I figure they mean moving out of the big beautiful albatross building to one that is possible to afford and maintain. I tend to favor a small rented office the the GL - One of my jurisdictions has always done that and has never suffered from the cost of an...
Dress like a pirate day at the Sciots! (It's an appendent body whose bodies are called pyramids. Popular in California and Illinois and probably nowhere else).
The first step is to tell a Mason you want to be a Mason. The next step depends on your geography. Some regions you'll need a sponsor. In the US the standard is to knock on the door of the local lodge about an hour before the monthly meeting.
If you want to follow in the family footsteps the way to go about it is to find an Order of the Eastern Star chapter or Order of the Amaranth chapter near you. Regular lodges are male only and have been since the system was founded three centuries ago and that's the system that your family was...
Yep. It it beyond reasonable because it's so low it doesn't make sense or because it's so high it doesn't make sense. It's ambiguous once we have an idea that people have complained we sell too cheaply. but if I came in off the street without context I would likely conclude the dues were too...
Wow. That's insane ranting. I pray for your mental healing. Using the ignore feature on you for a while until/unless I see good evidence to reverse that.
To form a new GL there has to be a state or territory with no current GL. At that point other jurisdictions are allowed to charter lodges there. Once there were enough lodges they can decide to band together and form their own GL.
This recently happened in Hawaii. MWPHGLofHI and MWPHGLofCA...

Sometimes questions are easy to answer once you have some information, as in this particular post. Sometimes questions are not so easy to answer even when you do have the information (links to various orders get posted to this forum every...
In the 1840s during the height of the AntiMasonic movement in the US multiple state GLs folded. Of my jurisdictions Illinois is on its second GL as the first folded during that era.
As sad as it is it might be necessary. The legend of the Phoenix. The legend of the third degree. The legend...
In business there's a concept of satisfying a client's requirements. Sometimes that means doing what the client wants. Sometimes the client asks for something that doesn't make sense on the surface and it's time to step back and ask "What are you actually trying to accomplish?"
There is an...
The ritual in the EA degree says you're presented with an apron. Some lodges take that literally; other lodges wait until later. Because not all brothers ever advance it's possible for an old lodge to build up a lot of aprons that were presented to EAs and FCs who were never raised. I think...
As a Past Grand Master of the colony of Pennsylvania's GL it would be beyond my ability to believe any such assertion without definitive quotes from a lodge minutes book. It's so far beyond my expectations I would want to see a scan of the page.
This is why I seek a church group that I consider to be spiritual. Very subjective what that means and which group had it, but I know it when I see it. So for me the complement happens at church; the contrast happens at lodge.
The decision is up to every individual. I figure the relative...
