Essentially, the issue arises not from the POV of the lodge, but rather from the POV of the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church. In another thread, I have laid out an argument for why I think Catholicism and Freemasonry are compatible.
You have to keep in mind that, for Catholics (in my own experience), we trust in the teaching of the Magisterium and the Holy Father. They are direct links to the first apostles, and ultimately to Christ, through Apostolic Succession. Also, a point of correction. There is 1 Catholic Church...
Death is a subject for meditation. The Dias de Los Muertos parties, for example, use a lot of skeletal imagery in a festive atmosphere to contemplate the death of loved ones and their own death. Medieval monks used to keep skulls on their writing desks to signify that death comes to all...
I'm not sure about free will, but the will is something that Buddhism talks about explicitly in terms of conquering the will. Not elimination of, but controlling your individual will. The antithesis to this would be the philosophy of Nietzsche, who advocates the free reign of the will.
Disclaimer: I am not yet a mason, but as soon as I become old enough in my jurisdiction (only two years away) I plan to.
I have heard that the degrees in the York Rite complete the story of the Hiramic legend found in the craft lodge, whereby the true master's word is imparted. If this is the...
Not quite sure about the last bit of analysis, considering the GM of UGLE isn't in the immediate succession for the crown.
While I think many points are valid, I would offer that the progressive line can also pose a threat, in the sense that it is expected. Essentially, if things are given...

The governing body. I think (think, not sure. I had a thread on this a while back) the the NMJ has it's own governing Council, separate from that of the SJ.

At the bottom of the description. Recognition restored immediately as of June 11,2014, by Grand Lodges of England, Ireland, and Scotland.
If I am accepted to a lodge, I would not press my faith on any brother. I only being it up because it is in the appropriate sub forum and many people seemed to have various questions.
Are there masonic lodges, in the US or beyond, that meet in bars/pubs? I read that the this was how lodges meet before 1717, when four lodges united to form the first Grand Lodge. Is this still in practice, or have lodges normalized to meeting only in lodge buildings?
The official instruction of the Magisterium is that Masonry is something Catholics should not be a part of, as per Cardinal Ratzinger's clarification of the 1983 Canon Law that does not explicitly mention Freemasonry as banned (as the 1917 Code did), but only prohibits Catholics from joining...
Ok. I do want to become a Freemason. I had to really investigate it without spoiling anything because the Church still holds a negative view towards freemasonry, officially anyway, but arrived at the conclusion that the two are compatible. I am eager to learn from the example of the brothers...
