Unless I'm mistaken, there have been several threads on the subject here already.
I've no problem with discussing it but I think you'll find that it's not such a powder keg of a subject here...at least not in my experience.
The Bible presentation is on page 89 of my monitor. A quick glance doesn't reveal any alternative presentations in my book.
My opinion? Because it's -scary- and might run someone off.
This I did not know. So much for my aspirations of turning down the light level and using candles. :/
I don't think it's a secret that GL wants the ritual for each lodge to be exactly the same. Get with your district instructor sometime, they have the ritual down to when you are supposed to step, when you're supposed to drop your arm, when to stand up, etc.
I think the best way to find out if...
When I heard him speak about the COR he simply stated that they weren't legal and lodges would need to submit the proper resolutions if they wanted to see them acceptable to use.
That's what he -said-, mind you. Because the impression I got was that he didn't like them and it does sound like...
I don't know anything about the Moors but what you're saying is reminding me a lot of "The Hiram Key", I don't know if you've read it or not.
I'm not sure how I feel about all of it myself. There's no doubt that our civilization is heavily influenced from Greece/Rome...who likely were inspired...
Funny you mention that because many of those famous men in the Alamo were brothers as well.
This also likely won't be much of a surprise to many members of this forum but Santa Anna was also a mason.
Washington, Franklin, and Revere were all masons, to name a few.
Masonry had a -huge- impact on the formation of the US and many masonic ideals were taken into consideration while our constitution was written.
Masonry as we recognize officially began in the 1700's but, as Widow's Son has pointed out, there is evidence of it existing for quite some time before that.
There are some who believe the Masonry has roots in ancient mystery schools, which entirely possible, but it's pretty debatable.
I'm reminded that we had one initiate arrive to the lodge with a pair of riding gloves. Always prepared I guess. :)
We had another EA degree when I wasn't very active but the then WM parked a trailer with some goats in it by the main entrance. Again, funny, but it probably raised the eyebrows...
I feel I should have mentioned that my area is pretty rural. I haven't actually visited any urban lodges before but I wouldn't be surprised if things are different due to having higher memberships than rural lodges. Of course you mention that only a handful of people keep the lodge...
Of course you can my brother. :)
I respect your opinion and you may very well be correct but I feel differently. Many people join local lodges for the benefit that they are local...I think if two lodges merged then you wouldn't see many members show up from the absorbed lodge. We have a...
Let me counter your question with a hypothetical scenario:
You've joined a very old and prestigious gardening club. You complete the process it takes to join and pay the cheap membership fees. With great excitement you attend your first gardening club meeting.
It starts out as a typical...
