I was installed as Senior Warden this past Friday evening... A nice surprise, the Marshal investing me with my jewel and escorting me my station was none other than the Grand Master, M:.W:. George Coffman ;-)
The Deputy Grand Master, a member of our lodge, was serving as installing officer...
I move up to Senior Warden this coming Friday evening...
Enjoy your year as Senior Deacon... I used the time to focus on the work, and get a good start on my certifications, which made the following year as JW a lot easier. Find a good instructor, get the words, floorwork, and presentation...
Mine is my Dad'sbrand, from the old days when he used to run a few cattle. As others have noted, it;s right angles, horizontals and perpendiculars, incorporates our initials, and isn't too hard to carve ;-)
I ran into about the same sort of thing... Got the class A uniform, sword, & belt to get started, but then ran afoul of some of the uniform nazis, so I never did drop the bucks on a chapeau or the other hat. Haven't been back to meeting yet either... My time goes to my blue lodge and the...
About the second or third order of business after I turned in my MM proficiency a couple of years ago, I was called west of the altar and installed as junior deacon... that year being a sort of tough one where we had lost both the Sr and Jr deacons after the first couple of months of the year...
The Line in our lodge starts with the Junior Deacon, and both the deacons are elected positions. Secretary and Treasurer are elected as well, and the two masters of ceremonies, Tyler, Chaplain, and Director of Work are appointed positions.
An excellent book ... if you can find it these days... is Allen Roberts' Brother Truman, a Masonic biography of the former president and Missouri grand master.
Arkansas's stone from the White House is still in the archives of the Grand Lodge, and was brought out for an exhibit last year at...
Ir is indeed a violation of Masonic law for an Arkansas Mason, under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Arkansas, to be an active member of Shriners International, to petition the Shrine, to communicate Masonically with Shriners, or participate in any function sponsored by the Shrine or held...
Not true. Dimits are handled by the local Lodge. Under the Arkansas Digest ofLaws, all a brother has to do is to request a dimit in open lodge. If the brother is square on the books, and no other brother objects, then the Master orders the dimit to be issued. The only restriction is that...
Served right toward the end of the Vietnam era (though not in 'Nam itself); Jimmy Carter's Army, Ronald Reagan's Division '86 structure through the Cold War, and got recalled for stateside service in '02's Noble Eagle. While proud to have served, I don't think that having done so makes me...
I actually like them all... It's always a thrill to confer as the Master, and strive to give that young brother the best performance you can. I usually work as the Sr. Deacon or Sr. Warden in most of the first sections, then I am usually the guy doing the second section as well. In the...
We have 55 questions in the EA, 39 in the Fellowcraft, and 43 in the Master's. Proficiency is demonstrated "to the satisfaction of the Lodge," either in reciting in open lodge or before a committee of 3 MM appointed by the Master.
Nope... in simple terms, "what happens in the house, stays in the house." What I do in my Scottish Rite valley or my Royal Arch chapter doesn't have anything to do with what I do back home in the blue lodge.
Remember that as Masons, we meet on the level. The fellow who is next year's...
There are several around the state here... Brinkley Lodge #295 over in Monroe County has a Traveling Tractor... A mounted John Deere tractor model that serves the same function ;-)
I do not see the Shrine coming back as a recognized body in Arkansas at any time hereafter. While it was first probably a clash of personalities, things have proceeded over the past three years to make an extremely difficult task of bringing the two bodies back together.
There are several...
You might also try reading "Dungeon, Fire, and Sword: The Knights Templar in the Crusades," which is the book he was writing when he did much of the initial investigation that came out in "Born in Blood."
I wouldn't say that "Born in Blood" is an authoritative history, but it makes a good...
The requirement to memorize and recite, or "turn in" a proficiency lecture of a series of questions and answers for each degree originated with the Grand Lodge of Louisiana in 1850. Since then, most jurisdictions have adopted this means of insuring a new Brother has at least a fair idea of what...
It will vary a bit with each lodge. In my case, the Director of Work was focusing strictly on two people, and when I tried to get started, there wasn't a lot of help. I went over to a neighboring lodge where several brothers were running sort of an informal school, and eventually came back...
