I admit, I'm a bit of a worry wart and worry that brethren will miss good info along the paths of their journey! I think it's because I want every brother to enjoy the Chapter and Council degrees as much as I did!
I thought Sons of Hiram was a Shrine degree team composed just to do MM degrees?
I also think organizations composed of or requiring MM as a condition of membership have to sign something like a sovereignty agreement with the Grand Master in which they acknowledge the Grand Master as the...
Enjoy the work brother! You might try to watch the first three degrees if there is time and they are conferred before you begin the Chapter leg of your journey! Also, did you read over the back of the petition form before you submitted it? It's often overlooked, but there is some very...
Companions in and around the San Antonio area- plus any who may be traveling through or may simply want to join us- are invited to the York Rite Conference at Helotes Lodge next weekend on Saturday, January 26th. The conference is normally attended by the presiding officers of the Chapter...
I look at it this way... I'll probably be there to open the building in plenty of time for Companions arriving early.... early is 8:00, so I need to be there before that... on Saturday... I must really love this stuff! ;^)
There will be a York Rite Conference for the District #22 area- San Antonio and adjacent areas including Kerrville and Pleasanton- on Saturday, January 26th at Helotes Lodge #1429. This conference is open to all York Rite Masons (Companions and Sir Knights) regardless of home jurisdiction...
It is normal to do the Chapter and Council degrees in groups of three. That's different than a festival where you may have many candidates with just one "exemplar" in each degree. You will understand the form using three candidates later. Many Chapters/Councils get dispensations to do a series...
Congratulations Brother on continuing your degree work! I always recommend taking the degrees one at a time rather than in a festival. Some times and in some circumstances brethren need the festival form, but if time is on your side do the degrees one at a time.
While you are waiting for...
There was an excellent show on the History Channel the focused on Masonic involvement, I think it was one of the "Cities of the Underworld" series shows. I think you can find it for download on their website and you can definitely get thought the Kindle Fire online store.
Here's a trick... learn the questions and the answers. It makes self-study much easier. Some instructors require it, but some don't. If you know both parts you can practice whenever you have time to run through it and it will begin to "flow" much quicker.
The best help you can give your acquaintances is get them to visit the lodge they think they like to join and meet the brethren. They should ask for the petition themselves after they've met some of the brothers. They will have questions about the petition and a lodge member should answer them...
Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I for one will be looking forward to your impressions and thoughts as you go through the degrees and after. Please keep in touch as you start your journey.
Here's a suggestion, i really recommend you stop reading about Masonry until after you finish your degree work. You run a real risk in being disappointed in the degrees because you will tend to build them up in your mind. There is a danger that you will miss the lessons because you're searching...
By all means, visit a lodge near you. Many lodges post their meeting times on their sign outside, so if it's posted, go about 30 minutes before a scheduled meeting. If you go during a meeting there may not be anyone in dining room. Usually, the lodge members will dine and socialize during that...
If someone is trying to evaluate or judge Freemasonry by the "output" or product, then they will miss the intent of Freemasonry. It is - in my opinion - about the beginning of those processes; is about the man. Freemasonry uses allegory and fraternity to help a man understand his relationships...
