That is excellent, Gipper.
Like you, I was young when the Masons first made a big impression on me. One of my school buddies was in need of serious orthopedic care, but his family was just about dirt poor.
My dad and his Mason friends got that boy into the Scottish Rite hospital in Dallas...
I have no recollection of my grandfather or great grandfather. Both died when I was about 2 years old. Both were also members at Onion Creek but they lived up north, near Brother Gene's service station. One night Gene told me that he remembered both of them because they often visited Hill...
For me, growing up with my dad's lodge buddies around, I finally came to understand that they were the type of guys I wanted to be when I grew up.
Of course, I was 37 when I figured that out.
They at least should have to wait until I can get a ring of my own, OK?
Seriously, I think that is part of the deal. Want the bling? Go through the degrees. All of 'em.
Just so I am clear on this, we are talking about the Prince Hall affiliated Shrine permitting suspended/expelled Masons, correct? This is not something that is going on, or being considered, at Shriners of North America. correct?
Oh, I thought you were going to say I was the good looking one... But your way is probably more on the level!
Thanks for the invite to that awesome event!
I grew up around lots of Masons, too. My dad is still very active in his Blue Lodge. And like you, college and career kept me from giving any serious thought to becoming a Mason.
Now that I am a fairly new MM, my bond with my dad has never been stronger.
