The most general question would be - Are there any X lodges? The answer is usually no. The tradition of lodges having specialty membership died everywhere I've heard of multiple decades ago. Lodges of a specific profession, specific religion, specific national origin have all pretty much...
My wife and I laughed about that as we watched the episode. Laying a cornerstone is cheap long term PR. Some brother often donates the stone. Some brother often carves the thing for free. There's a press appearance for the ceremony. It puts the S&C out in public where it will last at least...
I wave and pass them so they can see my Master Mason license plates and the plastic frame that says "Proud to be a Shriner". Often the brother passes me and waves back. On rare occasions I have changed the wave a bit but that's mostly when driving to and from GL so there are tons of Brothers...
For this forum and most of my social browsing I use Firefox. On my Fedora laptop at home it's the only browser I have installed.
For work browsing I use IE on the Windows laptop supplied by work. On it I have IE, Firefox and Chrome when I have problems with either of them. At my previous job...
W Bro Nagy makes a distinction between Freemasonry as the organization "more men in Freemasonry" and Masonry as the practice by individuals "more Masonry in men". I think it's a useful distinction because both are needed.
GL must focus on Freemasonry because it is the organization. As such I...
One the one hand - Masonry teaches tolerance. Tolerance is being at peace with something not accepting it. Masonry has historically led the way on issues of freedom and tolerance.
On the other hand - Masonry teaches morality. But it does not teach who's morality as in what culture's local...
That does show you have no idea what evolution is, either the Darwinian form of a century and a half ago or the current formulation of evolution. Something that puzzles me - If someone has no idea at all what a system is, can they really be said to either believe it or disbelieve in that...
Re: Should there be a "cap" on the number of membe
I like the old tradition of lodges hiving when they grow past a certain size. It's a tradition that have been lost across the US.
I oppose any rule that *requires* it.
I was affiliated with Seaside lodge north of Seattle for a while. I don't remember anyone bringing their own white leather apron to any meeting but their own degree. I do remember brothers wearing their own PM aprons. I would ask for a ruling on PM aprons for clarification.
Re: G L Of N. J. Destroys Another Great Masonic Ca
Incidentally there is a resolution to be voted at GLofTX next month that does address the ability of a sitting MW GM to expel a brother by edict. It is Resolution No. 3.
It seems that in 2004 "Title V" was passed that moved Masonic discipline...
The building of one of my lodges is owned by a temple corporation where several bodies own stock. The stock was as they met at the time so the minority ownership has long since come to have little correlation with the bodies that meet there.
The building of one of my lodges is owned by a...
I favor time limits but in years rather than months. Give a brother plenty of time but be able to drop them from the books after a few years if they drop out.
I am uncomfortable with a rule that requires a proficiency be delivered in a few months. I think the reason is to keep brothers moving...
I was thinking of the grain thing. I figure an emblem with the placement would be too hard to tell so it would get confused. Thanks!
So one MW GM did not follow an old local tradition but he was not enough to change the old tradition. It shows the local tradition is not a written rule anyways.
Re: reference to freemasonary in recent t.v serial
We do indeed have those things, but we generally don't use those terms for them. We tend to call them the Holy Bible, Square and Compasses. They work better than those fancy colored wax candles I see advertized in the back of some magazines!
Re: Looking forward to my Entered Apprentice Degre
Does NJ do degrees in parallel? In Texas and California obligation sections are one at a time with the lecture given to all at once. In Illinois as many as 3 in parallel for a maximum total of 7. The most I have seen at lodge was 2...
Most of the time I figure someone is a brother because something comes up in conversation and the topic moves to lodge events. Or I see a ring or symbol on their car. Once in a great while someone uses vocabulary that appears almost nowhere but ritual and the topic turns to lodge events. Or...
I can think of a few symbols that are unique to the second degree that could be used but none that are explicitly called out as such in the degree. In the lecture of the first degree there is a paragraph explaining the meaning of the EA symbol and there is a slide of it when the slides are...
Wow. I was not even aware it was allowed to refuse a demit request. Thanks for the education.
If the demit is allowed the GM needs to get involved? That sounds to me like a local variation. As any one recognized PHA GL is just another recognized GL does that mean to demit to Hawaii from any...
According to your posting history you were in Hawaii. Are you still in Hawaii? When the MWPHAGLofHI split from California you inherited the agreement made between the MWPHAGLofCA+HI and the GLofCA. That agreement happened in the mid-1990s when I was a deacon in the line. The agreement says...
