I disagree. A discussion to draw up a petition for recognition isn't the same as "identifying with" an organization. You're talking about a subject in the privacy of your own home, not wearing the t-shirt to the pancake breakfast.

You will need to approach a lodge locally.

It sounds like a group of like-minded riders need to submit a completely new petition for recognition (with the appropriate patch design) soon. Show GL that you're "MMs first," and that you will be of value to Texas Masonry.

I'd have to go with "No."

    York Rite

Mine is very simple, and was in use on my tools before I joined. I'd try not to get too fancy with it.

Tell your friend the truth; you aren't a member of the club, you aren't allowed to become a member, and you rather not risk your standing in lodge by wearing it. As for your "do-rag," do you drink Jack? That's what people assume when they see it, not that you work there.

Books for a newly Raised MM?

There are several threads already on this topic, but my first thoughts go to Wilmshurst's "The Meaning of Masonry" and "The Masonic Initiation." I believe both can be found free on iBooks. Freemasonry is the most-often published topic, you could spend years deciding what to read.

League of grumpy old Past Masters

I've been a "virtual" for some years and was made an "honorary" by my lodge before I moved, but I don't believe either entitles me to a ring. I like your choice, btw, looks great.
