Is it a war that we can win? I believe Iraq will be successful but I'm not sure about Afghanistan.

If Nobama will quit dicking around & follow Gen. McChrystal's advice, then yes.

God forbid, the President of the United States actually put some thought into a decision. These decisions shouldn't be made lightly nor should Generals just be rubber stamped. How well did that work in Vietnam?

We simply cant allow al Quada to have a secure base of operations.

I don't equate this guy to the empty suit Westmoreland. From everything I've read, McChrystal has given this situation much serious thought. Besides, he's Obama's hand-picked guy- what does Obama's actions now say about his choice?

I was not alive for Vietnam but from what I have been told and the limited(very limited If I'm wrong in this statement correct me) research I have done on Vietnam, it had a huge issue and it was the politicians and public polls instead of doing what we needed to on the ground.

Lack of action you mean? Which is my point, what is wrong with the President taking some time to review everything? A decision is coming soon. It's probably going to be in the 40,000 range. What if the President is taking his time to make Karzi understand the US cant be counted on forever. The whole thing is way more complicated than the syndicated radio personalitys will have you believe.

    BTW- I really like McChrystal.

    While Nero fiddled, Rome burned.

Well, Nero wanted it to burn, but I take your meaning.

Honestly, I'm at the point where I could give a rats behind about Afghanistan. There's no end in sight and we have no strategic incentive to remain there. The last thing I want is to send another 40k of our brave men and women over there. Where am I wrong?

a constant state of war works out pretty well for our government, actually.

if it's not afghanistan, we still have the war on drugs, war on violence, the war on child pornography, the war on terrorism, the war on hackers, whatever idea they pick to go to war against this week. the war on swine flu, perhaps?
