I don't see why not. You appreciate (ha, see what I did there) the help he has given you, and you are doing something to show that appreciation.

Sure, why not. I think that a lot of us did gift our mentors at some point. It is a great way to say thank you!

That being said, I also do not feel that you should be obligated in any way to do so... After all, we teach to the benefit the fraternity and not for personal glory.

I don't feel obligated. He was a big help so feel proud to do it.

I already have the gift picked out. i just wanted to make it was ok that night while we were taking pictures and before our dinner.

What types of gifts did people give them?

I know my mentor has some older Masonic ciphers and was raised in Minnesota. So I got a Masonic ritual set from Minnesota that are all about 100 yrs old.

Thought he would like that.

I'm sure he would. That sounds good.

Masons also like Grand Masters' knives (do other states do those?).

On the 20th anniversary of my raising, I called the four Lodge members in attendance, who were also there on that night, to the altar and presented them with a lapel pin. Fortunately, one of them was my dad.
