I am a freemason from Rome, Italy. I would love to be a part of a discussion in English or Italian. Thank you for posting.
Here is our official website if you would like to learn more. http://www.somi-massoneria.eu/ I am very glad you like the magazine! We work very hard on it and it is always interesting as it is beautiful! We have also put together some great collections of music for the rituals.
PLeas ehave the conversation in englis here. I would love to follow it. Can someone offer a quick run trough of ITalian masonry and all the different organisations?
Here's the main obediences: Grand Orient of Italy Grand Lodge of Italy (Grand Lodge of Italy; the "Piazza del GesĂș" or "Palazzo Vitelleschi" Obedience) Regular Grand Lodge of Italy Italian Grand Lodge Traditional Grand Lodge of Italy Masonic Grand Lodge of Italy National Grand Lodge of the Freemasons of Italy Italian Grand Lodge of the Egyptian Rites, S. O. M. I. Scottish Rite The Italian freemasons have had a rough time in Freemasonry. There was a national scandal with the P2 lodge. Unfortunately, this has proven to be a permanent stain on the reputation and public opinion of Freemasonry. It's really a shame as the famous Garibaldi was one of the most famous Italian Freemasons, and he is of the same importance as America's George Washington. Much has been done to ease public opinion. I am thrilled to have found my mixed lodge. I can't imagine life without my brothers and sisters!
Yes, this is Yes, that is correct. I might have missed a few. The list is long. Our lodge has good relations with so many other lodges. We normally have a huge convention the first weekend of June, but with the pandemic, it will probably be canceled. I look forward to it every year as so many delegates come from all over Italy and other parts of Europe.
How are all these grandlodges affiliated? Grand orient to Grand orient d' France I assume but no idea about the rest. Witch of there are male only masonry and witch comasonry? Are there female only masonry in Italy? Is there any other differences in these organisations? Like in rules of the candidate being atheist or something? SOrry for the flood of questions.
Well, there are some mixed gender and female only organisations in Italy, but I'm starting to think this list is incomplete as SOMI seems to fall under that 'category' too.
Yep, mixed gender alright. Victoria, if you would be so kind to let us know which Grand Lodges in Italy allow women to join (and any other information is welcome) I will further update the Italy page that I linked to above.
OK, I am trying to compile a more complete list of Grand Lodges for women only. In the meantime, I see that you have included http://www.granloggiafemminile.it/. I will check if there are others. I'm a bit weary of naming any obedience unrecognized. One moment please....
OK, after checking and recheck ing with our GM, it appears that the female lodge listed on your list above is the ONLY Grand Female only Lodge in all of Italy. If there are others, they seem to be unrecognized or irregular. The GLMFI is the only one official. As for SOMI, my obedience, we are a mixed Grand Lodge of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite that has existed since the post-war period. Our Sovereign Grand Commander was Peter RoschildI. If you go to the site, you will find all the historical indications. http://www.somi-massoneria.eu/ I hope this was helpful.
https://cesnur.com/appendice-i-massonerie-e-religione/obbedienze-e-riti-massonici/ Here is a list of recognize lodges, mostly masonry. My obediences, SOMI, is comasonry, and the ONLY female obedience is the GLMFI. As for your question regarding admitting atheists, I can only answer from my limited experience. In SOMI, they require that you believe in a "higher being". They did not ask more than this or what denomination I came from. As an atheist, even if you do not believe in God, can you still believe in the Great Architect?
So it seems that UGLE recognizes Regular Grand Lodge of Italy. So does the Grand Lodge of Finland. What is the correlation with other Italian grand lodger and masonic arganisarions? Who recognises who?
Sorry, I forgot to answer regarding the differences. Again, I am only 2nd degree, but I have seen a difference in ritual. Some use a slight difference in their rituals. For instance, we saw one group walk in the opposite direction. Some items they used were slightly different from ours. Some groups are much more formal and strict, while others less so. SOMI is precise but relaxed. I hope this helps. I have called on our GM to join us here to help answer any questions.
